Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Here is the thing between Disney and Netflix: If Disney had been the one making the decision to pull the plug, wouldn't Marvel know in time? This whole messy cancellation directly after the season aired thing is Netflix style, not Disney's.
I actually think that the lack of hype and buzz surrounding the last seasons of the Netflix shows is waaaaaay more related.
Huh I just got another idea from some scouring internet comment sections.
They could keep Shang-Chi being the son of a super-villain, but instead of Fu Manchu they can use the Mandarin which could finally bring back the whole real Mandarin biz teased all the back to that short years ago.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Oh, hell yeah! This trailer has me pumped even more than the first one, if that's even possible.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The main thing I wanted out of this movie was Captain Marvel being a goddamn Super Saiyan, and this trailer delivered on that GLORIOUSLY. Like, I'm also really excited for the story of her coming to terms with herself as a 'Kree' and as a Human and the inevitable point where she learns that the Kree aren't as good as she's been led to think they are, but DID YOU SEE THAT PART OF THE TRAILER WHERE SHE WAS FLYING THROUGH SPACE AND SHOOTING ENERGY BLASTS AT STUFF AND THAT SHOT WHERE SHE CREATED A WAVE OF ENERGY AND THAT SHOT WHERE HER HAIR WAS STANDING UP AND GLOWING, OH MY GOD!
That trailer is dope as fuck
Mizerous@ why so i may ask
Swanpride@ yes please that sounds awesome
I honestly din't expect shang-chi to get a movie but i am happy
And as usualy people really like to throw the words sjw and mcu doomed around about captain marvel

DRAGON DRAGONCaptain Marvel will be facing quite an upright battle. Unlike Black Panther, her character wasn't introduced in an earlier movie, and she runs the risk of being overshadowed by Avengers 4. But then, the movie doesn't need to jump the billion mark, it only has made as much as other new franchise movies.
Trailer does looks pretty solid, but I'm not expecting it to feel as fresh as Black Panther, or as emotionally connecting as the first Captain America. Doctor Strange set the bar for new franchises so low though that I don't think I'll hate it either. I do appreciate the seeming focus on her youth though. While the other franchises like Iron Man and Black Panther have talked about it and occasionally shown us scenes of their childhoods, Captain America is the only other franchise I can think of that's put as much focus on it.
Huh? I loved Strange. But I apparently possess the rare ability to accept movies organically without insisting they live up to arbitrary standards established by others.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"At the very least this is their first female led movie so hopefully they don't bungle.
Sure it may not be "innovative" or "groundbreaking" but that's not what's important. What's important is that its good and entertaining.
After all Wonder Woman wasn't an original film but it was still a damn good film to watch regardless.
There is a general level of quality though.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Bullshit. Pardon my French, but quality of entertainment is a one hundred percent subjective factor. The idea that there are arbitrary and objective standards for what makes a good work is one of the cancerous tumors eating away at media fandom that is largely responsible for its toxicity.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I can enjoy a movie via being entertained by it but still acknowledge if its plot, characters, or special effects are shit.
Like I liked Venom but I'm not gonna say its a particularly good movie cause it had problems.
I can also enjoy the Bayformers films but that won't stop me from stating that they are fucking shite.
Suicide Squad has really, really bad editing for one.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."![]()
Yeah, but I noticed none of those problems with Doctor Strange, so I don't see the point. The editing and camera work were fine — or at least there was nothing to take me out of suspension of disbelief.
Oh, the Bayformers films are absolute shite, largely because the plots are completely incoherent, but I acknowledge that some people may like them. They certainly made enough money, didn't they?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Strange was technically competent but felt soulless with an unsympathetic main character, threadbare woo-filled script, and one-dimensional supporting cast, whose most compelling character Mordo also lacked enough substance to justify the logic of his Face–Heel Turn. There's also the external race fail but even had they gotten it right it wouldn't have made the movie less dull. If you're exposed to enough video games then its special effects selling point also loses its luster.
I genuinely tried to give it a chance and still came away disappointed.

See, I thought Strange's character arc was quite interesting. But this is where subjective evaluations of quality come into play. You just said it's technically competent, so there is no objective platform for disliking it.

If that cat doesn't end the movie with a tiny little eyepatch I'll riot.
Alternatively, this.
