Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I've been expecting this since Luke Cage's cancellation. Disney's pulling the rug out from under the Netflix shows so that they aren't competing with themselves when they produce their streaming service.
I'm not sure if they'll be able to move the shows, though. Depending on the nature of Netflix's distribution rights, Disney may in fact have to pay Netflix to license their own shows back to them, which would be ridiculous and no studio in their right mind would ever agree to that. It's this exact situation that killed Spectacular Spider-Man.
There's a very real possibility that any shows Marvel produced but doesn't hold distributing rights to will just wind up being the unwanted stepchildren of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, technically existing but being utterly ignored by the greater canon around them. So, no real change if you think about it.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Supposedly the ratings of Daredevil have been slipping, too.
In a way, this is a good thing, though. If there is a chance that Disney will continue the story, it will be bigger when it can move the complete Netflix verse.
Maybe, but we frankly don't know. And if they can repackage the characters into a new show if they want to.

The cancellation statement ends with the following sentence: "While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
What this sentence means is "This show is with Netflix forever, but Marvel will be free to do their own reboot of it in the future".
My interest in any reboots is below zero. Netflix had delivered the best Daredevil adaptation humanly possible and in my humble opinion the best comic book adaptation ever.
No real interest in rebooting the pinnacle.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I'm somewhat skeptical of the idea the Disney streaming service will opt to continue a highly plotline-heavy three-seasons-long show when they literally cannot air those three seasons on their own streaming service. It's a ridiculous business proposition, because hypothetical new viewers would need to go to Netflix, their business rival, to catch up on the plot of the Disney streaming service's Daredevil before heading into the hypothetical fourth season.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."What they will probably do, however, is have a quick recap in the beginning of anyone who doesn't know his origin...and then dive right into the next storyline, one that doesn't have any ties to previous storylines.
Man. corporate bullshit screws everything up again.
I get it. It's your money and all. They got their way of doing things, but it really sucks.
Fans want to see this stuff, and we're sick of rights issues and other bullshit screwing it up.

They could do a soft reboot, though. Why not start with Iron Fist and Ward somewhere in Asia? You can reintroduce the characters and then start anew. Same with Daredevil. Hell, the only show which is currently at a point at which a soft reboot would be difficult is Jessica Jones, and that could change after the next season.
I mean, Doctor Who does it all the time, right?

I just realized that Clint's wife is Velma from the live action ScoobyDoo.
"In 900 years of time and space I've never met anyone who wasn't important."The statement of cancellation of DD literally just stated "The three seasons will stay on Netflix for a long time". They won't be imported there.

The reason why there is a need to reboot the X-men is for one, the current movieverse is a mess and two, the X-men itself are so interwoven with history that I actually think that they should leave them out of THIS MCU timeline and instead stick them into an alternate timeline.
Anyway, the Defenders shows, they are not difficult to explain or to incorporate.
Well, "Long time" is very vague….

Other than the Punhisher, I don't think that any of the Defender shows actually need to be R-rated. And I don't think that there is a need for an explanation. There wasn't one beforehand, so why should there be a need for one now? They simply haven't meet the Avengers yet.
