Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

That's a little bit a hen and egg question. Was Zemo lucky that the split happened or was the split something which would have happened either way eventually?

Regarding Bucky: Honestly, I think that really depended on what is on the tape. Zemo had suspected something, but I don't think that he would have involved him before knowing for sure what is actually on the tape.

[up][up]I think I'd agree with most of that. I don't think it's mutually exclusive to say he had very specific overarching goals but was also very capable when it came to improvising around new obstacles and opportunities as they came up.

He put that military training to damn good use.

Sad he ended up becoming a super-villain though I hope he becomes Citizen V one day.

Everyone seems to think villains have plans for everything, while most of them are just really good at improvisation.

I wouldn't say most necessarily, but Magnificent Bastard (overused and YMMV though it is) exists for a reason.

A comics!Loki (in a female body) exchange that sums up MCU Loki came between he and Doom:

Doom: You remain Loki, Loki.

Loki: I will take that as a compliment.

Doom: That you do is why you remain Loki.

Loki looked notably disturbed by the idea. Loki schemes and plots and makes mischief but never seems to have a plan beyond this one caper. Come Ragnarok he's so predictable that Thor called the exact moment of betrayal and got there first.

Speaking of Loki, got some bad news about him.

The Russo brothers have confirmed that Loki is indeed very dead.

"Was Zemo lucky that the split happened or was the split something which would have happened either way eventually"

It was VERY damn lucky, hae all the avenger or more than Tony, Cap and Bucky and is plan is dust, hell he got to sibera in part because the avenger were busy fighting each other, hae vision being there he would have subduded Stark or Wanda, and so on.

Is why I dont like of is plan: the airport fight does the heavy lifting for him to the point there is not avenger to the break because they are already broke a that point, most of them are captive and criminals by the law, Cap is already and outlaw and Zemo plan consist of....hitting Stark in is emotional cords, which he already have shaken by the whole accords buisness in the first place.

Is one thing you can change plans, is another very differently to claim his plan would go well considering the narrative have to break the avengers for him.

Wouldn't that put the first trailer, like, only a month or so before the movie releases?

I mean, the film is somewhat unique in that it doesn't really need trailers to pull in audiences, but still.

Yeah, but while that is unusual for most movies, it's not necessarily unusual for A4. We're already long past the point where films typically have a title. I can't think of any movie that has ever successfully generated so much hype as Avengers 4 already has before even being given a proper name.

The Russo brothers have confirmed that Loki is indeed very dead.

I think we knew that, though. His strangulation death was much more vivid and graphic than his previous death in "The Dark World", and they even had both Thanos and Thor commenting on how Loki is Totes Actually Dead This Time. The Russos did everything in their power to make clear that Loki was Killed Off for Real.

He's also slated for a spinoff TV series on Netflix's new streaming service, but the one does not actually undermine the other because it's also pretty clear that Infinity War's deaths aren't going to still be around by the end of A4.

Mass resurrections are guaranteed by the nature of Infinity War's ending. The only real question is whether they intend to bring back the bare minimum (Black Panther! Spider-Man! Falcon! The Galaga Guy! Etc.!), everybody (Loki! Gamora!), or "Okay, now you're f*cking with me!" (Quicksilver! Yondu! Uncle Ben?!).

Loki survived to disguise himself as Gamora. Then Gamora was killed and he narrowly escaped death a second time, emptying out his bag of tricks. But this time he knew where to hide and devised a cunning plan in which he disguised himself as Vision.

Didn't work too good.

Secret Invasion except it's just Loki impersonating everyone and getting them all killed by Thanos.

Whack-A-Mole but instead of moles it's Loki and instead of a mallet it's the Infinity Gauntlet.

The snap wasnt because thanos want to kill half of the universe: he just want a method to super finally kill Loki for good.

Thanos just keeps on Snapping the universe in half until it's finally just him and Loki in an I'm a Mac/I'm a PC pure white void. Then Thanos Snaps one last time... and disappears. And that's Avengers 4.

[up][up]That is because in that moment Thannos learn the truth: he have being loki the whole time, thinking themselves separate for some odd reason, is not only until he is alone he leart the truth and finally loki kills loki by stangle himself with the gauntlet.

And then capitan marvel show up asking what the hell just happen.

Welp, that's it. After Season 3 of Jessica Jones, that show is probably going to be cancelled, too. Hopefully, Disney will bring them all back on either Disney+ or their own movies.

Well, that definitely confirms this is due to corporate politics rather than the shows' ratings, if there were any doubts after Luke Cage.

JJ and Punisher are gonna get the axe after their next seasons as well.

I guess all we can "hope" for is that they'll be renewed on Disney's own streaming service rather than banished for all eternity, but it's a really shitty play on their part and I have no doubt the different streaming venue will affect the content.

I'm beginning to think that creation of Disney+ is the reason all the Netflix shows are being cancelled. I admittedly fell behind on the Netflix shows, but the fact they all got cancelled in such a short frame from each other is suspicious to me.
