Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

To be fair, Jon Ronson also did an entire report on David Icke and his belief in lizard people
and if "lizard people" was just a metaphor for "Jews." His outcome was "Well, when David Icke says 'lizard people,' he actually means 'lizard people.'"
Well anyway, here's some Captain America fights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlOinnu6fS0
This is one of those occasions where potholing to joking mode/Sarcasm mode isn't such a bad idea
Anyway, something I've wondered about, since Marvel and DC both have a character named "Enchantress" and DC already put out a film with their Enchantress, would Marvel have alter her name somewhat so people don't think of the DC character?
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverComic-Book Movies Don't Use Codenames so Amora's fine. If they used her, they might throw in some line calling her a wicked enchantress and then never speak the name again.
The MCU has been better about actually letting the names be a thing than other media, but they still don't use them that often. You're more likely to hear Tony Stark addressed as "Tony" or "Stark" than "Iron Man". "Captain Rogers" or "Steve" is used more frequently than "Captain America" unless someone's specifically talking about him as an icon.
"Spider-Man" gets used a lot because nobody knows what else to call him apart from Tony. But even then, we have "the vulture guy", Adrian Toomes.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Since it looks like it's trying to be the most traditional, bombastic superhero series of the MCU, I figure we'll get more outright codenames in Spider-Man. Mysterio, especially, is a character who has to go by his codename, because that sort of overdramatic mystique is part of his deal.
For everyone, else, it's kind of 50/50. As noted, everyone has a reason for being called the codenames they have, if and when the series wants to use them: "the Black Panther" is the official title of the protector of Wakanda, "the Hulk" is used to distance the monster from the man - and becomes more apt when he develops his own personality, the gag of Peter trying to force Star-Lord as his outlaw name only for everyone to think it's stupid (though, to an extent, end up doing it anyway), etc.
Makes sense, since they both have directors attached. And it also makes things pretty interesting, since both films are being directed by female directors — Cate Shortland
for Black Widow and Chloé Zhao
for The Eternals.

It's a first movie, so obviously she has to fight Yelena Belova, per MCU tradition.
Black Panther first appeared in Captain America: Civil War but still had to fight Evil Black Panther for his first solo outing.
Calling it: Black Widow's movie will be a prequel story about the Red Room and how she joined S.H.I.E.L.D. The villain will be the Red Room's star pupil, Yelena Belova.
Either that, or it won't be a prequel and the villain will still be the Red Room's star pupil, Yelena Belova. Nat gets tapped to take her down because she knows how to think like a Black Widow.

Drax is way better at being invisible than anyone anticipated.
RE my comment on the Skrulls, wanted to elaborate on two things:
So one is that because of the similarity of the premise to various conspiracy theories, including anti-Semitic ones, I hope they get a somewhat sympathetic presentation, including some outright heroic Skrulls down the line. In particular Hulkling, who happens to be a Jewish Skrull.
It's kind of the same concern I have with the likelihood of the next Black Panther movie doing the "Achebe/evil refugees" plotline. But I'm optimistic with the Skrulls in part because except for Carol herself and possibly Jude Law, everyone else on her "Skrull hunting squad" is a super-villain.
But in terms of Skrull infiltrators and Hydra, I kind of don't think they would necessarily be working together. It kind of depends on whether the Skrulls want to conquer Earth or exterminate humanity, but if it's conquest, I'd figure that they'd prefer to be the only ones to take over the world and would have an easier time if things were otherwise running smoothly. It's the same reason why I'd figure that Skrulls in SHIELD would likely help fend of the Cithauri and Thanos.
Just remember the moral of Secret Invasion:
The true Skrull Infiltrator was within you all along.

Then it turns out that there are Skrulls infiltrating Hydra infiltrating Shield who are actually lizard people who are actually Jews. The general public is both confused and outraged at the antisemitism in the MCU and the bizarre way it was implemented.
