Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh and don't forget the Council of Nine aka the MCU's version of the Secret Empire. The MCU really has a thing for ancient, secretive organizations (see also: The Hand and the 10 Rings)

Amusingly, between the tv shows and the movies, there's no less than five completely distinct secret evil organizations covertly directing the course of human history for their own ends in the Modern Era, most completely or at least predominantly unaware of the others.
- HYDRA
- "Original" HYDRA (the Hive worshippers)
- The Hand
- The Inhumans (Jiaying's group)
- The Kree and/or the Skrulls
HYDRA and the Hand are the funniest example, because they were basically doing the same thing yet were evidently completely unaware of each others' existences.

But the important question is: are there Skrulls impersonating HYDRA agents who are themselves impersonating SHIELD personnel? Do we have a Flock of Wolves scenario going on?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Everybody is Anal Skrulls which are actually the Beyond Corporation.
Ant-Man & Ant-Man & The Wasp & The Wasp & Stature & Ghost & Goliath. Get the whole Ant-Family together. And then they fight Taskmaster.

While I don't want him as the main villain or anything (maybe as an opening villain like Crossbones or a subplot villain like the guy from Ant-Man and the Wasp), I really want to see Whirlwind in the next Ant-Man. He's basically Jan's archenemy, and it'd be fun to have an aging, old man supervillain come out of retirement to settle an old score now that she's back.
Especially if, in keeping with both how Wasp vs Whirlwind tends to go and the tone of the Ant-Man movies in general, the "old score" is presented as kind of petty and juvenile. Kind of a "bombastic Silver Age throwback played for both awesomeness and laughs at once."

I still want an accidental friendly fire scenario where S.H.I.E.L.D. Skrulls do battle with Hydra Skrulls because neither side realizes that the others are Skrull imposters.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Partly because of Secret Empire, I've had this idea for both movies and comics of exploring an explicitly Equal-Opportunity Evil Nebulous Evil Organization that's basically made up of people who either wouldn't work for Hydra or when they realized they were working for them, they didn't like the Nazi part but did like the money and world domination part.
So like in the comics, I had the idea of the Sons of the Serpent, who are basically Klansmen with a snake motif, facing off against the Serpent Society, who are a quite diverse also snake-themed group.
And in the MCU, I think this would be a good way to reintroduce AIM lead by Monica Rappaccini and/or the Serpent Society, with Viper as a prominent member. Kind of thought she could be a supporting character and love interest to Captain Falcon.
Edit- And more on topic, I do like the idea of Hydra and the Skrulls facing off against each other with a nutual dose of Unknown Rival and Flock of Wolves. I guess in part because of the similarity of the Skrull's premise to conspiracy theories about evil Jews and/or reptiles. So it makes sense that they would be opposed to Hydra.

I thought Centipedes grew out of AIM and was used by Garret for his own goals.
