Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I really do hope that they make a Heroes for Hire show now and put it on Disney streaming. Or perhaps make a Luke Cage movie that would wrap up all "Luke Cage is now the Sheriff of Harlem" storyline before transitioning into Heroes for Hire.
But damn, I thought Luke Cage was one of Netflix's big winners. I guess they just really didn't like the Season 3 scripts they were getting, which is weird, considering how well received Season 2 was.
Some people I've talked think that it might have been a money issue.
Like, someone indispensable to the show wanted a bigger paycheck, and the execs said no.

Oh God! Natural light!Cancelling Iron Fist after a successful second season could have made sense if, despite its improved quality, it simply didn't have many viewers thanks to the first season getting poor reviews.
But cancelling Luke Cage after two successful seasons makes no sense unless they're planning something with the properties. Whether that's a Heroes for Hire show or just moving both shows to Disney's own streaming service remains to be seen, but either way it's irksome.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! That's Valkyrie, not Gamora. You want her to be a completely different character. Personally, I love the Gamora we have just fine.
I really do hope that Heroes for Hire show actually becomes a thing and Luke isn't just discarded altogether like that. At least The Punisher lives to fight another day.
Also, I'm absolutely down for Gamora and Valkyrie meeting up. I hope Val's been doing alright. She's probably just out drinking...and also probably saw half the bar she was in disintegrate.
On that note, for the hell of it I'm willing to bet Korg was dusted but Miek survived.
On my wave, passing oooooooonYes. Yes, I do. I want her to be the terrifying badass from the comics, instead of having her personality watered down to be the team's mom. I hated James Gunn's limp-wristed Gamora. This is supposed to be a woman who will pull your spine out through your throat if you so much as look at her funny. Someone whose bloodlust sometimes does more harm than good when she puts winning a fight over accomplishing a mission.
This
is
who
Gamora
is
supposed
to be
.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, and Groot isn't a Card-Carrying Villain. The characters are different in the MCU. MCU Gamora is plenty badass already, and Valkyrie already has that character archetype covered.
The MCU's Groot is heavily based on the post-Annihilation version of the character, after he lost his linguistic abilities and became capable only of saying the words "I am Groot" while simultaneously bonding with Rocket Raccoon.
He hasn't been a Card-Carrying Villain in a long time.
The MCU's Gamora, meanwhile, is based on the sexist idea that women have to be caregivers first and foremost.
>.< Goddammit, I keep doing that. Fixed.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I once read an arc of Guardians where they got locked in a space station that was at threat of Skrulls so Drax went on his own and built a device that fired everyone’s minds on the station without anyone noticing.
He ended up being the one who found the Skrulls.
I admit I would like to see such levels of competence from Drautista.

Uhhhh Valkyrie is nothing like comics-Gamora to my recollection. She’s a drunken slob & a loser. I don’t think Gamora’s ever been that pathetic.
Late to the party homie.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Bad news. Apparently Netflix Luke Cage just got canceled: https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/luke-cage-canceled-1202987278/
There has been nothing to convince me Gamora and Drax are anything but Badass Normal aside from the time she picked up that big gun.
I feel like, in the MCU, Steve Rogers could absolutely belt the shit out of 3/4s of the Guardians of the Galaxy by himself. Throw a shield at Quill to knock him out, bounce it off his skull and kick it at Drax to make him trip over his own feet into a pile of giant alien feces, have a proper fight with Gamora, beat her, and then punt Rocket over the horizon like Charlie Brown finally kicking that goddamn football.

My various fanfics. Not all the adaptational changes work equally well, and Gamora and Mantis get damseled pretty hard, it must be said.
It's not like Marvel cares about checking the "snarky tech-savvy hero" box many times over, I don't see why "Valkyrie's got it covered" should be an excuse.

Saw that further up the page. It sucks. Honestly, even if they really are planning on doing Heroes For Hire, it still kind of sucks.

FUN FACT: In the comics, it has been suggested that Quill and Gamora once had a thing. It was short-lived because she's violently aggressive and bruised his sensitive man parts. He tried to warn Tony Stark away from her to no avail
.
Like Valkyrie’s establishing character moment is to fall off of her ship’s runway in drunken stupor in a purposely failed attempt at a badass walk.
It shows that while she is competent she’s also not very put together to say the least.
Gamora is more cold & sober in comparison.
As I recall the only guy she’s actually into is Richard Ryder.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure her and Richard Rider were a proper thing. Because Nova is a bad motherfucker.
My various fanfics.

Maybe it means Gamora will get to do something other than roll her eyes at the boys' antics, try to convince them to play nice with each other, and clean up after them when they inevitably don't.
So sick of her getting stuck with being the Straight Man. Gamora deserves a chance to cut loose and be the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy. Drinking hard, fighting hard, and giving zero f*cks what you think about it.
