Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, I think a lot of people (myself included) might have overreacted.
This doesn't necessarily mean he's leaving the role of Drax, or that he will even end up getting a part in the movie. Not that there aren't plenty of examples of MCU actors doing DCEU projects, or vice versa (Laurence Fishburne, Djimon Hounsou and Randall Park).
Bautista has 2 days of reshoots left for Avengers 4, so I guess we'll find out any day now
The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.Sony wants Spider-man to be in the Kraven the Hunter film. source
As noted, there's no indication that Bautista's leaving.
That said, I don't really think it would affect the franchise much if he did. His character is the comedic relief in a film where every other member of the cast is a wacky and eccentric personality anyways.
Guardians 2 completely overhauled his entire shtick and replaced his personality traits wholesale, and half of the audience didn't even notice. He's not exactly the face of the franchise.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Drax is more than just the comic relief. He had some fantastic scenes in both Guardians films, and his personality is very well-defined. Drax is the Team Dad of the Guardians and forever obsessed with revenge, and he can connect to the other Guardians using his experience as a father.
Maybe but the object of is revenge will be deal after avenger 4 so is narrative will be done by then, I think Drax should just retire and be happy after that.
I mean, I just want a hero who honestly, truth to god retire and that it, the whole "fight until you die" mentality seen just toxic for me.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Not really, no. He's more of a parody of the Team Dad role. His efforts to connect with the others are typically misguided while his actual advice is rarely if ever valuable. Generally any time he's onscreen, you're meant to be laughing at how dumb he is, laughing with how blunt he is, or frustratedly facepalming at how bluntly dumb he is.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Indeed. Drax got the Gimli treatment. He went from Total Badass in the source material to Funny Idiot Who Thinks He's Badass in the films.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Lord of the Rings, the Dwarf.
Also, Film!Gimli was still a badass. He killed just as many people as Legolas did in Helm's Deep despite having a short-range weapon and shorter reach.
He has a few good moments but they are far outweighed by his absolutely dreadful humor.
Drax is my least favorite Guardian but he's still alright. His weird lines and jokes work in my opinion because Dave makes him sound so passionate and sincere about it that it wraps from groanworthy back around to amusing. Still, he's probably the least essential of the bunch. At the same time, I'm not sure if Dave's actually gonna up and leave at this point but I can't see into his head.
In unrelated news, Daredevil's third season is a thing. I should look into that. Damnit, I still need to catch up on the Netflix side though I'm wary of DDS 2.

On my wave, passing oooooooonI'm hoping that Drax sticks around long enough so we can see that his daughter also survived and became Moondragon...and then we can get Phyla-Vell, too. In fact, the third Guardians film should have a radically different lineup by the end of the film — I'd like to see Gamora lead a team of Moondragon, Phyla-Vell, Adam Warlock, Rocket, and Groot.
If anyone else were playing Drax, it would be unbearable. Dave Bautista makes it work by sheer force of will.
My various fanfics.I'd rather they kill off Drax than recast him, TBH
Disney really made a huge mistake in firing Gunn. They were hoping this would all blow over after a short while, but instead it's this dark cloud that's gonna be hanging over the rest of the franchise.
The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.Actually, when you remember that Drax was not even part of the original escape plan, you realize he kinda is.
One Strip! One Strip!Well, he does help out. But overall...what exactly is he even doing other than ensuring that Ronan gets the stone in the first place? I kind of can't remember him doing anything decisive during the battle of Xandar either. During the fight against the space monster he is more a hinderance than a help, jumping out of the ship to shoot around is kind of crazy and he wasn't particularly helpful against ego either….

Chris Pratt playing both Star-Lord and the lead in the Jurassic World series (which is produced by Universal instead of Disney) is probably a bigger deal on the studio level then Dave Batista potentially having supporting roles in both the DCEU and MCU.
