Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Cap will die by slipping on soap. Thanos used the Reality Stone to turn the ground slippery.
Meanwhile, her actual husband to whom she spent her life blissfully married to is standing there like, "Dude? The f*ck?"
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
"Sorry I had a crush on her first. That overrules marriage."

This song needs more love.Peggy should have made room on the door for Steve. NEVER FORGET.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.So, Avengers 4 is the last film with Chris Evans as Captain America.
I wonder what would happen to Captain America's character.
My bet is that he will either die/retire and pass on the title to someone else. Dying sounds more likely for his character, methinks.
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.Uh, Chris Evans isn't actually saying that he's retiring from Captain America in that Tweet. Like, yeah it sounds final, but all he's saying is that he's wrapped up filming for Avengers 4 and that's it's been an honor playing as Steven Rogers for the past 8 years. He also thanks the cast, crew, and audience, but he's not actually saying that he's done as Cap.
Like, he very well might be retiring as Captain America after Avengers 4, but that Tweet is not positive confirmation of that.
Rumored title of Avengers 4 is
Avengers: Annihilation.
For context, Conrad is the guy who correct called that Marvel was working on the Eternals movie.
That's the cover to Annihilation #4
. The reason why I'm wary is that the Annihilation crossover wasn't really about Thanos or had Thanos as a bad guy — the bad guy was Annihilus and his Annihilation Wave. Thanos actually tried to help stop Annihilus before Drax killed him.

Yeah, there's kind of a lot of... stuff in Annihlation that the MCU doesn't really have yet. In part because most of the Guardians got snapped, and Xandar got wrecked and presumably most of the Nova Corps along with it, and Ronan is dead and the Skrulls will have only just been introduced and there's no actual Annihilus or Galactus or Silver Surfer.
Well, I do understand it's not going to be Annihilation proper. And I guess a title that confirmed alternate universes or some kind of time travel would be a little on the nose. But I am wondering what parts (if any) they might adapt, in a roundabout way, since they're presumably going to go fully cosmic to battle Thanos.
If it was In Name Only, the title wouldn't be a spoiler for Infinity War and they wouldn't have kept it from us on the grounds that it was one. Plus the last time they did that they got some backlash, and Marvel has shown that they're capable of - even if through baby steps - learning from their mistakes even in success.
Either way, the other thing going against it is the rights. Annihilus is a Fantastic Four villain, and Marvel Studios by way of Disney just got the film rights back. Films take a long time to make, and Avengers 4 - having been in production for a while yet - isn't going to be about Annihilus, and unless they only finalized the name after the deal went through it probably wouldn't be named after a story arc that would probably have fallen under Fox's purview (since it's about a character they had providence over) either.
I wouldn't put it past them to quickly put together a stinger about Annihilus being the next Big Bad of The 'Verse, though, and maybe that's the kernel of the truth that the rumor really caught on to.
