Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm pretty sure we've been told that at least some deaths will stick, although we don't know which. It would be an opportunity to move out the "old guard" of characters whose actors are ending their contracts.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"With Cap I think he'll
1)Get serious injured and put into cryofreeze
or
2)He gets permanently killed, later gets resurrected as a clone played by someone else
But personally I want him to end up guarding one of the stones somewhere,so he's not 'dead' but he's busy off screen
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI really hope the MCU doesn't fall into the comic book trap of constantly cycling characters on and off a bus as their respective narratives get more and more convoluted until only a reboot can untangle everything. One thing I've liked about the way that Disney has done things so far is that continuity is relatively simple. You can jump into any given film without having had to catch up on three years of backstory just to know who everyone is.
Except for Infinity War, of course, but that couldn't have been any other way and kept under four hours of runtime.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The dusted folk are all coming back. Gamora is definitely coming back and staying back. Vision I'm 20/20 50/50 on, but I think everybody else who died in Infinity War (Heimdall, Loki, the Collector, and the Black Order) are gone for good.
As for the still-living, Nebula's definitely gonna die, and so is either Steve or Tony, maybe even both. This movie represents the end of one era and the beginning of a new one, there's no way they're not going to symbolize it by cutting down one of their old tentpoles.
The real question is, though, who's gonna kill Thanos?

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The Collector might not be dead. We never see a body; the carnage on Knowhere happens entirely offscreen, with the Collector's only appearance in the film being an illusion created by the Reality Gem.
It's entirely possible - indeed, given his personality, highly probable - that the Collector surrendered the Reality Gem to Thanos and/or fled for his life rather than standing his ground and fighting the Mad Titan to his bitter end.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Though that assumes that he could escape Thanos, or that Thanos would let him go.
Oh God! Natural light! Not really a question for me. If he is not gonna end himself, I'm 95% sure it will be Captain Marvel. She has been hyped up to death as the most powerful being in the cosmos, the new face of the MCU and what better way to solidify that than to kill the Big Bad of the verse?

Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianDoes Thanos have to be killed by one of the heroes, necessarily? Given how much effort Disney put in to subvert our narrative expectations in Infinity War, wouldn't it be interesting if he kills himself out of regret or something like that?
While Captain Marvel might "rescue the universe" in a sense, it would still feel a bit cheap to have her show up and beat up Thanos, tear up the Infinity Gauntlet, and go, "What's up, fools, I'm the new beast here." I'm sure she'll make a difference, don't get me wrong, but Thanos with the full Gauntlet is still stronger. He can turn her into bubbles, or wipe her mind, or teleport her to the other side of the universe. He is God.
No amount of punching and/or Beam Spam is going to take Thanos down. That'd be absurd. It'll be something else that wins the day in the end. I'd love to see Nebula get the Gauntlet, because she has perhaps the most reason to hate him of anyone in the whole universe, and killing him with its power would be karmariffic. (Not just because she does it in How It Should Have Ended, which is awesome.)
I'm thinking that his fall may not even be the climax. Somehow, the Infinity Stones have to be destroyed or eliminated as a threat. It could require an ultimate sacrifice from one or more characters.
Remember Dr. Strange. There could have been a million ways to stop Thanos, but none of them would have ended the threat of the Infinity Stones for good. That's the thing that has me convinced that it's not going to be a straightforward "get Moar Powah and beat up the bad guy" story.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I almost think that everyone convincing him that his entire belief system is flawed and it ends up breaking him is better than straight up killing him.
This song needs more love.Nah. Captain Marvel will have a key role but the killing blow has to be a group effort. Because if they win, they do that together. That's the very point of the whole story since Age of Ultron, that they can only win together.
And if any character has the right to deliver the final blow, it's Nebula.

I have a theory that the Gaunlet itself is broken and each of the original Avengers has to wield one of the Infinity Stones in tandem to reverse what Thanos did.

I think everyone who died in Infinity War is coming back, including Loki. As for who is going to die...probably Tony and maybe Steve. That's all.
