Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Odin probably should have tossed the tesseract into the marianas trench
By the rules of a comic book universe something terrible would have happened somehow anyway (perhaps the creation of Monstros...) but it would at least been more of an effort at hiding it
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAs far as I can tell, Ms Marvel is in the same odd situation in which Spider-Man is...meaning that the kind of adventures she has might be better suited for TV, but her powers are impossible to pull off convincingly on a standard TV budget. I mean there is a reason why Marvel TV tends to stick with heroes which either fight well or are very strong, or have some sort of external power (glowing, teleporting, making the earth shake aso). And now that Disney will most likely their hands back on the Fantastic 4, it would make sense to figured out how make stretching look good first (Fox certainly never managed) and then use the programs they wrote for that for Ms Marvel.
I put Ego a hread because of the simple fact Thanos at least can be civil and really thinks better.
Ego on the other hand, kills peter mons because...she was making him happy, I always feel Ego plan was stupid and a weak part of the movie but that moment when he confess is crime is probably one of the best moment I ever saw in MCU.
Hell I almost cry a little when I hear the chain sounding and Peter atacking is father.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Ego has killed more of his children than Thanos has done. But Ego never tortured his children.
A lot of MCU characters have bad dads or worry they might become bad dads.
I'd rate Thanos as ambiguously worse than Ego, then Yondu, then Odin, then the Vice president from Iron Man 3, then Hank Pym, then Howard Stark, finally T'chaka is least bad bad dad.
The amount of money he must have spent in horse protein is no joke.
And tryong to figure it out who is worse between Thanos and Ego for me is like trying to decide if dying via drawn out strangling is better than dying by being burned alive: you're still dead.
Also, why is the Vice-President in Iron Man 3 a bad father again? Bad guy, sure, but bad dad?
@Known Unknown: Mr Evans is just sick and tired of playing this, that much is clear.

To my knowledge, her powers have never even been pulled off convincingly on a film budget. It's hard to come up with effects for a stretchy person that don't look fake as shit. Having her constantly shout "EMBIGGEN" while doing it won't help with that, either.
But who knows? The Hulk looked fake as shit until the MCU took a crack at it, so maybe Marvel can actually pull it off. I'd certainly rather they try and fail than never try at all.
Ego "I put brain tumors because a woman is making me happy" said hello.
See, that makes Ego a bad husband. It says nothing of his fathering skills.
The Cave of Child Corpses is why he's a bad father.
He mind-raped Quill to force him to go along with the plan. It was in response to being shot, but still.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.So I'm just gonna say fo r the record here that I am ever so slightly offended that someone potholed Dork Age in the funny moments page for Ragnarok in the part that references the Frog!Thor storyline.
That wasn't a dork age, that was one of the greatest shit ever! I still dream of the day when someone will finally have the balls to adapt that into at least a cartoon.
That's all, carry on.
Edit: Actually I have one more thing to say: Kamala's powerset could work wonders if they go with a absurdist comedy route in her debut movie, much like the aforementioned Kung Fu Hustle.
...look, I really like Kung Fu Hustle, alright!?

I think the big thing going against a Kamala movie is that she’s basically a modern Spider-Man in terms of niche and overall tone. Which would’ve been fine, except the MCU’s version of Spidey is arguably even more like Kamala than the comics version.
So an honest adaptation of her and her tone now runs the risk of seeming like a repeat of Homecoming, which is very unfair to her, but it is what it is. They could keep her as a supporting character in the Captain Marvel series (when it inevitably time shifts into the present day), but the tone they’re using for Carol isn’t a good fit for her either.

I'm right there with you
I first heard of frog Thor on lists of dork age comic book moments along with Cap Wolf but when I actually read the story it was AMAZING
You'd think comic book fans would be better about not dismissing something just because it seems bonkers on its face. I mean historically that's not the case but you'd think
Forever liveblogging the AvengersComics are bonkers as a general rule, anyway
.
Hell, Cap Wolf was one of the few good things to come out of the 90's for character, or for that matter, in general.
Also, mind if I rip you off on that dictionary-style profile page? It's genious!

Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Rewatching Infinity War on demand. You could make a drinking game out of how often Steve silently stares dramatically at someone and then... nods.
It's funny. I've always used "everybody gets one" as an unofficial catchphrase for Spidey even though he never actually says it, simply because it fits him so well as an idea. This movie shows it perfectly, where his role in the final battle is basically him hopping around saving everyone when things go to crap.
