Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Despite being vastly outmatched, Thor was able to fight Hela on even keel for a little while. He was not able to do the same to Thanos.
Thanos is so tough that all of Tony and Strange's best efforts - and they were good best efforts - they manage to draw only the tiniest bit of blood.
Hela would have done better than Thor but not better enough, I don't think. And she wouldn't have been able to play nice with allies.
This. Additionally, if you recall, Thanos retrieved the Power Gem first. Which has the power to destroy a planet.
Hela might put up a fight against base Thanos. She wouldn't stand a chance against Thanos + Power.

This song needs more love.I will say that a fight between the two would be, if nothing else, spectacular to watch
Preferably from a large distance
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'd put Thor holding his own against Hela briefly and then being stomped by Thanos as nerfing for the sake of Plot Armor, TBH. Thor for some reason never uses his lightning against Thanos in the opening. And Hela if she really wanted pre-full-power Thor dead right away (she seemed to be fighting him for amusement) could've summoned one of those gigantic knives she used to attack Surtur and cleaved him immediately.
Life happened. I play the show in the background when I'm doing mindless tasks at work, but these past couple weeks have been pretty crazy.
Our team lead is moving to a new position elsewhere in the company and I've been picking up some of her load to try and replace her. We also underwent a remodel; since I'm gunning for that promotion, I helped try to manage our team's move during the relocation process. Plus we've got new processes we're implementing, which I had to help design and roll out.
All in all, my work hasn't exactly been mindless these past couple weeks, so there hasn't been time for it. I do expect things to calm down once some of these transitions are complete, though.
It occurs to me that in the opening fight, they're in space. Where's he supposed to get lightning from?

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Well I know the giant "Fuck you" bolt that he hit Hela with came from the sky.
This song needs more love.I have usually assumed Thor never casts his gigantic bolts of lightning inside ships (like the Helicarrier in avengers 1 and the ship in IW) because he's (quite rightfully so) afraid that if he does so he'll annihilate the place and kill everyone inside it.
It's noteworthy that Thor's two greatest attacks took place in specific situations. His giant thunderwave in the first Thor movie took place in Jotunheilm before Thor gave a shit about anybody's lives, and the unholy lightning bolt of Ragnarok took place in a (entirely empty) Asgard.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."By that point I think he was just too exhausted and beaten to conjure up that kind of attack, but to avoid loss of life was presumably why he didn't chuck a godforsaken lightning bolt from the word go.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Thanos really is the strongest there is.
Also ya know I had an amusing thought but I'd really want someone to tell Hank "Yo Tony Stark just saved your ass" just to see his reaction.
Hell it be funny if Ghost were she anti-corporate for example to call out Hank as a corporate douche-bag like Stark & for him to go "What I'm against those corporate douche-bags like Stark."
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."When has Tony ever saved Hank? Or are you talking in general?
One Strip! One Strip!Good look at Captain Marvel, though I hope the shots of the Kree makeup are low quality because they look rough...I think even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. did a better job with it in terms of some characters being blue and having specific facial markings.
Y'know, it's interesting. Pym built his company on nanotech and molecular engineering, always hating the Starks and considering them war profiteers. Which was fair. Howard Stark built his company on weapons and Tony kept right on trucking.
Pym was the victim of a coup from an associate who wanted to use the company for arms development. Stark tried to move the company away from arms development and was the victim of a coup from an associate who wanted to keep it going right on track. Both coups were performed in the name of selling weapons to terrorists.
Stark reported his usurper to federal authorities. The usurper was killed while resisting arrest.
Pym hired a criminal to break into his company and destroy it in its entirety. The usurper was killed during the ensuing violence.
Stark Industries is now working on developing renewable energy to build a brighter future. Pym Industries is not working on anything because it was completely obliterated.
