Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Thunderbolts’ lineup would be interesting in the films, especially since of most of the surviving villain a good chunk of them are sympathetic, and while Thunderbolts as a concept needs some of the team to be sympathetic and choose right over wrong, I don’t think most of them should be.
There’s also the bit that movie Zemo wouldn’t be caught dead leading a team of superhumans because he hates their guts.
Those can be dealt with though, so I’m more or less good about it.
Given that a Thunderbolts movie should absolutely introduce a character as a focus / protagonist as well (that is, a Young superpowers crook who joins the Big Bad’s plan, but realizes - with the help of a world weary, goodhearted cohort - that they don’t want that life and rallies the others to switch sides), I think that character should definitely be Songbird.
As for the team, provided the movies don’t introduce someone really cool and new soon, and assuming as always that tv characters aren’t invited to the party, I’d say: Songbird, Vulure and Ghost as the good ones (with Ghost maybe even being undercover), and Abomination, someone new using the Whiplash tech, Batroc, and then make it look like Zemo but actually have it be someone unexpected as Big Bad like Crimson Cowl or something.

Watching the first Thor movie for the first time in years was a trip. I forgot how straight up unlikeable he is at the beginning. Imagine if Loki hadn't let the frost giants in to Asgard, and the version of Thor that nearly starts an all out war because someone called him a "little princess" was actually given Asgard. Yikes. That would've been a nightmare for his people.
"In 900 years of time and space I've never met anyone who wasn't important."Speaking of watching old Thor movies, I was watching the Dark World recently, and I've just now realized that Loki has played a role in the deaths of both of his adopted parents.
He told Kurse which direction to go in once he escaped (and that led to Freya's death) and stranded Odin on Earth, which caused him to die as well.
Inadvertent Familicide twice. Oh that wacky crazy Loki. And it's funny, because Thor probably doesn't know about the Freya case (though it's debatable if Kurse wouldn't have figured out where to go on his own, or if Loki's actions had any affect on things at all, but even if it didn't, he probably did believe he was responsible).
One Strip! One Strip!I feel it's pretty likely that he feels guilt over Odin's death too and everything that led to
Didnt Loki intentionally kill Laufey? Three dead parents
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYes, though it’s also been used by other characters as well - in particular, if I’m remembering right Justin Hammer’s daughter led an incarnation of the Masters using the identity.
I’d be down for any of the people who used the identity, though. Even, maybe especially, surprise Ultron.
They could have Justine Hammer show up on Runaways and be about the same age as the kids. Not that that show needs any more villains or stuff to deal with, but I'd kind of like that, all the same.
Loki also killed the Avengers' father/midwife figure, then later gets yelled at by Thanos. Seriously, no wonder he's got some kind of complex about it.
I thought the same thing about Agents of Shield. IMO, the first couple seasons of AOS would've been the perfect place to use either Zeke Stane or Sasha Hammer (not Justine, since Sasha's closer in age), and am still a little disappointed it never happened.
This one is my favorite.
◊ Not sure why the top and bottom are cropped out, and the characters aren't quite right, but it's just such a perfect pairing.
Popped in Spider-Man: Homecoming for shits and giggles. Wow, this movie is way better than I give it credit for. It's positively drenched in charm. Very, very refreshing for both Spider-Man and the MCU. So, so many great performances all around. Also funnier than I remembered. Still not quite as good as Got G 2 or Thor: Ragnarok in my book, but still definitely a top 5 for the franchise in my book. Also apparently Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Frank Sinatra and the TED Talk exist in the MCU.
Pretty cool to know the MCU redeemed not one but two franchises last year after they each had two pretty iffy movies early in the decade.

On my wave, passing oooooooonI wouldn't be surprised if they are. In one movie, they gave us Vulture, Shocker, and Tinkerer while also introducing Mac Gargan, the man who would become Scorpion.
Four villains. Four villains. Homecoming made it 2/3 of the way to a Sinister Six and did it without sacrificing storytelling quality.
It's just like I've been saying about Winter Soldier: it doesn't matter how many villains your movie has, as long as they all serve a single narrative thread. Quantity of villains isn't what killed Spider-Man 3 and Amazing 2; quality of storytelling is.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. This is true. I mean, his motivations were wonky once he reached the point where he had to fight Spiderman, but before that, I thought Electro was pretty good. At the least, he's as powerful as you'd expect him to be.
One Strip! One Strip!

I get that, but I feel like it'd be something of a Happy Ending Override for Ghost if that happened, for a given value of "happy".
Oh God! Natural light!
