Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'd much rather have Taika Waititi as the director for GOTG 3, Thor 3 very much felt like both Thor 3 and GOTG 2.5.
But...if Kevin Feige decides that Johnson would be qualified to direct a MCU film, I wouldn't question it.
Then again, I'm just an audience, not a high ranking Disney employee or anything so my opinion doesn't really mean much anyway. XP

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.I'm still concern about how the James Gunn situation came about. It's like some guy just up and reposted something that James Gunn said over a decade ago. It has me concerned about how this guy was able to obtain such information from 10 years ago and whether or not he hacked the system to do so? This is all just thinking on my part, since I'm not really sure how the information became available like that.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!If they actively called for a shooting and did not apologize when one nearly happened, we can rule out "really bored". Let's not muddle the narrative of what happened. It's already fully clear that this wasn't random nobodies stumbling over Gunn's old tweets, it was them deliberately being sought out as intentional discreditating.
...from the fact that they've been stirring shit up non-stop for a long time now? Like the time they spread the word that there was a child sex dungeon in the basement of a pizza parlor (which didn't even have a basement) being run by Hillary Clinton, loudly called for an armed response, and then some random whack job showed up at the pizza parlor with a gun to "free the children." And then they continued doing the exact same thing.
In a sane world these people would be arrested for a variety of things. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure publicly calling for an armed response is illegal in the same way that shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater is. But we do not live in a sane world.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. They got lucky. Gunn gave them the noose they used to hang them.
But it's still way more power than I like them having. This is why people still supporting him and making it clear this is not who he is anymore is important. Disney needs to not worry about re-hiring him. What they need to do is make it clear that they do not support these guys in anyway, and it was on their own prerogative that they fired Gunn.
Gunn needs to make it clear that he messed up, and Disney was well within their rights to fire him, and that they should not be harassed over it.
Basically, everyone needs to give these Alt-Right dudes the middle finger in every way possible.
One Strip! One Strip!I don't want to sound hostile, but, um...you are aware that the Last Jedi isn't the only film Rian Johnson has directed, right?
Oh God! Natural light! What else has he done actually?
Maybe it can give some insight into his style and his choices for TLJ as well.
One Strip! One Strip! The only one of his that I've seen is The Brothers Bloom, which I really enjoyed.
Oh God! Natural light!

I mean, Marvel doesn't necessarily have to do anything here. There wasn't any reason to throw out a perfectly good script in the first place and, to my knowledge, nobody's suggested that they would.
By his own admission, Bautista's just making noise because he wants people to know that James Gunn is a good guy. He can't issue an ultimatum that he'll walk if they don't rehire Gunn because they aren't going to do that, so he's aiming for lower-hanging fruit to make a dramatic appeal without actually stepping on anyone's toes.
It's just bluster. I wouldn't worry about it. Odds are, Marvel's going to use the script anyway.
