Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I’m just gonna request this move to OTC, or at least treat the issue with less flippancy.
I’m not really enthused by dismissal that “the damage is already done” when atrocities happen and continue to happen every day, nor am I amused by eager speculation as to whether we’ll get a Cap movie addressing the incarceration of toddlers, reemergence of white supremacists, and rapid disintegration of a semi-functioning democratic republic.
Also, this has wandered off topic. So, in MCU news, I think the new Iron Fist costume
looks ridiculous.

Well, we did lose Dr. Strange, so I guess you have a point.
As for Danny's new costume, it's kinda his old costume, since it's shown in a flashback.
So...are we all prepared to tear apart Iron Fist if Season 2 is as bad as Season 1?
Nothing brings a thread together like turning on a fictional character, rather than real life and while I want Danny to be better this time, I figure it's ok to take shots at him too.
That's the way of the internet.

No, it's the Iron Sheik. His allcaps twitter posts
can overpower even the Iron Fist.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! We need the Iron Sheik to stop Thanos.
If there's anyone who can make that purple bastard humble...
Continuing to segue onto a lighter note, what are some of your favorite bits of voice acting throughout the franchise that you could name? (TV/Netflix series included) I gotta say Infinity War had no shortage of great contenders, with probably the best being Tom Holland in...THAT scene.

On my wave, passing oooooooonMarvel killed him already off. In Ao S season 3. I mean the Iron Chef.
(That's how one of the character was nicknamed by the fans).

Deadpool 2 had a joke about a 14 year old kid being raped in prison. I know it's made by a different studio but I don't see why it has to be held at a different standard.
The idea that James Gunn needs to be fired because Pedo Jokes are "unacceptable" for a director of a comic book film to make is ridiculous, especially after he apologized well before it resurfaced.
I am very glad that the rest of the cast are sticking up for him, though it sucks that they need to take a "telling the jokes were wrong but it was 10 years ago" stance. Jokes are jokes. They are harmless no matter how disgusting. Sad that the public is so oversensitive, then again what should I expect from a culture than claimed Harry Potter was satanic.

Depends on the joke and the context. Ie you aren't allowed to show off the Swastika unironically in Germany, but you can use it in movies or other forms of Art as long as they don't promote Nazism. And having a joke of this kind floating around freely on the internet is still different from having it in an r-rated movie.

Ultimately, Disney won't care if they're hypocrites. Their business is about making money and nothing else. The idea that Disney had a "family-friendly" image was always a joke.
The Ringer does a great analysis on just how unprecedented this cast letter is
, and how it forces Disney to respond it two ways: neither option is good for them in the long run.
Diplomatically done. Tricky line to walk. I'm glad to see them stand up for Gunn, and I admit I was wrong here — I was kind of expecting to see this die down without much fuss, and I didn't really want to point fingers at the cast over it for giving it more time before speaking out. But it's nice to see a bond like this behind the scenes, too. It would be nice to see cooler heads prevail here, and to see a win over Cernovich and co.

The big problem is if/when one of those alt-right extremists either resort to violence at Disney-owned properties or offices (and the Comet Ping Pong shooting and Charlottesville car attack does give credence to that fear) or launches a Sony-style cyber attack or blackmail plot to bring the entire company down.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam Gallagher

The damage is already done. Question is always how long it last. And if we get another Captain America movie exploring those issues (yes, please!!!!).
