Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh wow. I saw last night that a lot of alt-right people were going after him by accusing him of being a pedophile based on some (admittedly really dodgy) poor-taste tweets he made.
I'm kind of conflicted because I'd normally be pretty okay for someone to suffer professionally from bad online behavior, but I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) he ever harassed anyone, and I can believe he's changed because he's come across as a very pleasant, good guy, to the extent I followed his Twitter.

From what I'm seeing, those were made years and years ago, some over a decade. If he makes a compelling case that he's changed since then, I'd be fine with him getting re-hired.
Also, that one joke about changing the Giving Tree so that it ends with a blowjob from the tree is not pedophilia. Anyone who knows the story knows that the kid has long since grown into an adult by the time the tree is chopped down.
I’m kinda surprised that it took this long for these tweets to surface, as they had apparently been on Gunn’s account for a long time, and some trolls have nothing better to do than scroll for hours to find shady stuff. And it was no secret before Guardians 1 that Gunn had written gross things elsewhere on the Internet.
Ah well. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

They'll probably get the Russo brothers involved given their successful track record with other marvel films

have a listen and have a link to my discord server
They are gonna need another spearhead it seems.
He really should have removed those, especially since it sounds like it wasn't really a malicious thing, but a really bad joke that he no longer believes is funny.
One Strip! One Strip! It's Disney. If there is one thing Disney don't want to get connected to in any way it is Paedophilia.
It is a shame, but for one, it hasn't been that long ago, he basically did it until he got hired by Disney and then reigned it in due to being under more scrutiny. I am not sure if that translates into him having learned something about this kind of jokes or if it translates into him being more careful to not lose his job. And two, he has nobody to blame but himself. Those jokes are in bad taste in any context, they are crude and free speech simply just means that you can't be hunted by the state for it, it doesn't mean that what you say can't have any consequences.
Yeah, his Tweets were disgusting, but they were made eight years ago. It seems like he's earnestly changed since then. Granted, in the age of Me Too, I can't say that for certain about someone I don't know personally.
Regardless, I hope his replacement for Guardians 3 can capture his unique style while simultaneously being better at writing women.

I'm glad there's so much demand for them. That movie did have great costuming work.
