Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I dunno. Just because Galactus doesn't see it as wrong doesn't mean it isn't. The comparison usually used is that killing sapient beings to feed himself is no different from the way humans eat animals, but if animals were capable of communicating with us and pleading for their lives, I'm sure there'd be a much greater moral argument for veganism.
The best comparison to Galactus is a natural disaster, because that’s more or less what he is: sentient, essential force of nature whose existence is part of the balance of the universe. He has to feed, and unlike a human being he can’t choose to be vegan - with the exception of Marvel Adventures, I think.
Jack Kirby liked gods, and he liked characters with deified point a of view that were alien to human perspective, and Galactus is a good example of that. He’s only hostile to humans incidentally, and while that incidental nature is very terrifying to said humans, being hostile is not actually what he’s about. He exists as he is.
Which in short means that one of the big problems with adapting Galactus as a Big Bad is that he isn’t one. Turning him into one makes him a lot less interesting a concept.

A hypothetical Galactus film wouldn't necessarily need to feature Galactus as a Big Bad. There are plenty of films where the villain is a force of nature. It'd basically be a superhero disaster film, in the vein of Armageddon or The Core.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer tried to do something in this vein. It was terrible for a great number of reasons, but that doesn't mean the basic premise of treating Galactus like a meteor headed towards Earth that Bruce Willis needs to make not hit the planet doesn't have value.
The biggest problem with Galactus is the issue I mentioned before about it not being satisfying for him to simply fly off and go devour billions of sentient lives in someone else's backyard. To this end, writers like to solve Galactus by coming up with some way to either kill him or otherwise end his threat forever. And it's always stupid. Always. No exceptions.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The Cancerverse is a thing!
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I will say this, my pipe dream for film in the future is for DC to get its act together, the two companies to make a once in a lifetime deal and for us to get an adaptation of JLA/Avengers.
And if on the extremely unlikely event that that happens, I want the iconic image of Krona having gutted Galactus and used his body as a power source / housing for his universe creator. It's such a high HSQ moment.

J.B. Smoove has been cast in a lead role in Far From Home
. No details on his character yet.
An untitled movie has been moved up from July 30th 2021 to February 12th 2021[1]
The only interesting route for me for a Widow movie would be be to set it during the 90's and be about Widow's early days as she switches sides from the Red Room, have it handle the fallout of the Cold War and the like. Basically the best Black Widow movie ever made is and likely will remain being Atomic Blonde (though that's late 80's and Just Before the End of the Cold War).
As it is, my hope is they do the mother of all prequels and have everyone show up: Have computer Zola show up to chat with Fury, Rumlow and Strucker show up (and the movie explains how they switched sides), show how Widow became friends with Hawkeye (and goddamn Budapest with it), have the Winter Soldier show up to square against Widow, have Aldritch Killian show up as a secondary antagonist. Just go to town.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."So...6 year later, and you know what my favourite scene in the original Avengers movie is?
When just after Hulk and Iron Man tag teamed that first armoured Leviathan...and all the Chitauri are reacting...
...that one dude, who just takes off his mask and starts growling.
I still find it hilarious. It's like... he's in disbelief at what happened.
Chitauri Solider: Wait! Whaaaat? Did they seriously just do that!? I gotta get a closer look at this! <Takes off mask> No way! it's for real!
I just love it! In a movie with so many great scenes, this one is still my favourite. It's just random silliness!
And that's my stupid thread post for the day...or minute considering my kind of posts.
One Strip! One Strip!

There's been a number of times Galactus's threat has been dealt with with more long-lasting methods, like teleporting him into a dimension of limitless energy or upgrading him into his Lifebringer form early. I figure they'll have to do so for the MCU since superhero movies tend to have more permanent continuity than the comics.
