Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh whoops. I didn't know Actor Allusion was no longer trivia. My question still remains.
Not directly MCU related, but still kind of relevant: The second into the Spiderverse trailer is out and it looks awesome. Unlike Venom. I really, really hope that the animated movie works out, because honestly, while Sony animation is usually a disgrace the one thing I do trust them to do is to create a Spider-Man movie series which puts what usually passes as an animated superhero movie to shame. Plus, if Sony decides to focus on animated movies and leave the live action stuff to Marvel, we would get the best out of both studios.
...I'd honestly assumed it was the latter. I don't think the Hulk's ever been scared before so that kind of adds a new layer to the character. I don't know why they'd clarify he was just upset. That's lame.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!While the fear theory made sense to me, I had a relative theorizing that Hulks refusal to come out was because they were back on Earth where everyone hated him and he didn't want to go back to that after three years of basically being worshiped as the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I agree the actual reason feels weaker, though considering Hulk is a raging Man child on his best days, not that surprising.
One Strip! One Strip! My mom has her own theory about Hulk, which is that he's literally a child. Like, he only exists and ages during the time he exists, so he's maybe 4 years old mentally. It's also why he didn't talk much before Ragnarok, he was still learning English. I still like the theory that Hulk was just scared, and I'm going to wait and see how Avengers 4 deals with it before I decide that Hulk's reasoning is dumb.

So...Cloak and Dagger. So far I really like it. To be frank, I like it way better than Runaways or what recently came out of Netflix. It has a teenage vibe to it, but not in the CW way of teeny shows, instead it explores the kind of problems teenagers, especially ones from troubled families, actually have to face. There are also a number of really good decisions they made - there is some commentary about racism, but not of the on your nose kind, and the characters are very well drawn out and likable.
But above all it looks good. No questionable effects like in Runaways, they don't do much but what they do looks great. The use of music draws you in, and visually it is a touch more interesting than the standard TV show.
Otherwise: Roxxon is still the most evil cooperation in the MCU, American Weddings are still overdo it, there is one tiny plot hole which bothered me in the second episode, but nothing too big, and I look forward to the next episode.

Samuel L Jackson asked to be in Black Panther – but producers wouldn’t let him
Nick Fury is meant to be dead though, they had a funeral and everything!
his cameo should have consisted entirely of this line
I stumbled over this very interesting documentary about the making of Ironman today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6BWI1BajDM
What really struck me was when they said that due to not working for one of the big studios, they weren't forced to pick actors from a list….which might explain why Marvel is so spot on with casting.
It's also a nice little view in how some of the scenes were made.
Well, it is done. Infinity War has crossed the 2 Billion Mark. That makes it only the fourth movie ever which passes the mark, and the ONLY summer movie which every manages it.
Now the question is if it can add a little less than 70 million to the box office and beat Force Awakens...I think that it can. China has just allowed an extension of the showing time and while Europe will be focussed on the World Cup by the end of the week, it also lead to a lot of releases having been delayed until it is over, leaving Infinity War with a little bit less competition than usual.
Thor Ragnarok did a pretty good job at characterizing Hulk as basically at the emotional level of a child.
Him throwing a tantrum is. Not out of character.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo this isn't exactly relevant to the current going-ons of the MCU or DCU, but given the sheer amount of MCU franchises referenced and the fact that it's freaking hilarious I felt the need to post this:
But watch this one first:
Or you can skip to the part with Thanos

One Strip! One Strip!I suspected just by what we were seeing in the background tv's while Deadpool and Harley talked to that dude.
One Strip! One Strip!

I just noticed that in "Avengers: Infinity War" Thanos literally turns back time. He's played by Josh Brolin.
Remember what he also did in "Deadpool 2"? Does that count as Actor Allusion? I'm seriously asking you people if it's okay to submit that to Deadpool 2's trivia? Is it actual allusion or just a coincidence?
