Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Doctor Strange can't count. Especially not to 14 million.
Anyone else kind of want The Hobgoblin to be an antagonist in one of the upcoming Spider-Man movies? Even incorporating the mystery around his identity, throwing a lot of the alternate Hobgooblins into the mix (Macendale, Urich, etc) as part of the plot, maybe even the "Ned gets framed bit" somehow.
It'd be a nice way to give us some cool Goblin stuff without bringing in the "corrupt Norman and jealous/resentful Harry" plot again.
Art of Ebony Maw torturing Doctor Strange.

I don’t like him as an actor. It’s mostly subjective; I don’t like his face/body language/vibe. I didn’t like him in October Sky or the Prince of Persia clips I saw. I will freely admit this may not be a good sample size/examples of his work. There’s certain actors I just find off putting for some reason or other; he’s one of them.
Regardless of who's playing Mysterio, I'm glad that Scorpion won't be the sole villain. From what we saw of his personality in Homecoming I don't think he would have been able to carry a film. Especially not one following Vulture.
This song needs more love.I've only seen Gyllenhaal in Zodiac (which also had Mark Ruffalo and RDJ, funnily enough) which he was okay in but I'm sure there are more recent movies that would give a better indication of how he'd be in this.

This song needs more love.Jake Gyllenhaal was very good and creepy in Nightcrawler, where he may as well be the Joker on petty cash jobs before the supervillain schtick. As an LA County resident, I highly recommend the film as a satire of local news stations. Todd in the Shadows used to work as a reporter, and he called Nightcrawler “chillingly familiar”. It also has pre-Rogue One Riz Ahmed.

Gyllenhaal seems like a cool guy (I basically think of him as the Good Counterpart of Jared Leto, given similar choices in roles), and it is kind of a clever casting as he really looks like Tobey Maguire/a Spider-Man actor.
However, I'm a bit wary because he's acted in almost exclusively serious roles and I want "wacky" and relatively harmless Mysterio not manipulative sociopath Mysterio, and with Gyllenhaal, I'd only expect the latter, unless he's really Playing Against Type.
Vulture. Shocker. Scorpion. Mysterio.
Not saying they're going there, but we got 2/3 of a Sinister Six right there. And unlike Sony, Marvel might actually be able to pull it off.
EDIT: Especially if Venom gets pulled in after his solo film.
