Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah some of them had me scratching my head. I know Wallace is a joke about The Wire which Michael B. Jordan debuted on. Surprised they didn't go with the more obvious Fant4stic joke. And Buster Bluth was an Arrested Development reference to Klaue's hand. I don't get the Nakia, Okoye, or Zuri ones.
The Okoye one is a reference to the show Fear the Walking Dead (which is a spinoff of The Walking Dead, where Danai Gurira plays Michonne).
The T'Challa one is a reference to him being a prince until like a week before the events of the movie (when his father, the king, was assassinated).
Not sure about the Nakia one, it might simply be a reference to a lot of people considering Lupita Nyong'o to be really attractive.
Also the white guys one wasn’t “Tolkien white guy”, it was “token Tolkien white guys joke”, it was a meta joke about there being so many Tolkien jokes about Ross and Klaw.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranZuri's joke ("War Dog: Way of the Samurai") is a play of words on one of Forest Whitaker's Best roles, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (in which Forest Whitaker plays the bushido hitman Ghost Dog).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Nakia’s joke is a reference to the song “Mickey”
. (Warning: DO NOT play this video if you don’t want a song stuck in your head all day.)
Maybe because her two disc weapons make her look kinda like a cheerleader?

Honestly, I take and female to female relationship I can get. While the MCU has steadily added females in meaningful roles, they still barely interact with each other with all the male characters surrounding them. And after Netflix just ruined one of the few well-written relationships between two females we had, I am especially sour about this.

This actually tells me that they will deal with the effects of it. They couldn't properly do that without already knowing how it gets fixed.
