Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I believe Valkyrie mentions that her ill-fated battle against Hela was one of the latter's attempts to escape. It's entirely possible that she has tried to escape imprisonment during Thor and Loki's lifetime, with Odin just quietly sweeping it under the rug each time.
"Oh, uh, I've officially disbanded the Valkyrie Legion following a complaint about... just a complaint."
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Two questions:
1) Who are the other Elders of the Universe (didn't know the Champion was one. He was that dude who challenged all of the strongest heroes on Earth to a boxing match, and spared it when a certain ever loving blue eyed rock man just refused to give up if I recall...Dial M For Monkey did I parody of it with Randy Savage as the main villain)?
2) Do you?

One Strip! One Strip! Thanks. Those answers/handwaves make sense.
Also, Tobias, I love that dialogue you imagined between Thor, Odin and young, blue Loki. Especially the racial slur joke.
Really liked that Ragnorak included that detail which I had assumed had been retconned/forgotten. Although it's definitely partly Rule of Funny, I do find it interesting and revealing that during his "reign" as Odin, Loki's propaganda play acknowledges that he is/was a Frost Giant, and seemingly is about him being a Tragic Villain and making a Heroic Sacrifice. Although he's admittedly limited by a need to maintain a masquerade, it is interesting to me that even in his fantasy, he's still the villain and loser (in both senses).

Dammit you caught me
I think the Trader is interesting and wouldn't mind seeing more of him!
The Promoter was great!
And if there isn't an Elder whose obsession is reading all the things there needs to be!
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think Galactus is ironically too old to be an Elder and he doesn't really have an obsession aside from not starving to death which I don't think counts
Forever liveblogging the AvengersTo Rob (86222) :
Luckily, I've got my copy of Thanos Quest at hand. We've got : the In-Betweener (not sure about this one, however, he's not explicitly called an Elder in there), the Champion, the Gardener, the Collector, the Runner, and the Grandmaster.

The Elders actually plotted to kill Galactus once because they were jealous that he was elder than all of them
Also Collector's daughter Carina was an Elder but it's not clear what her obsession thing was so in going to call her the Daddy's Girl because her most apparent characterization was that her life revolved around first her dad and then Korvac
The Sattelite Female Character

Forever liveblogging the AvengersNo...no no no, there is not a Gardener. No one is that silly as to name an Elder of the Universe THE GARDENER.
I cal shenanigans. BULLSHIT SHENANIGANS!!!
One Strip! One Strip! His obsession is cultivating plant life
He once killed the Vision with some vines in a What If
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
I like that last part so much that I'm not even gonna bother to check if it's real or not.
I'm just glad someone understands that everything (that isn't the fault of Peter Quill) is the fault of Tony Stark.
One Strip! One Strip!Reminder that we live in a universe where somebody thought Combo Man was a good idea.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyThe sequence Thanos goes after The Gardener is also by far the most heartfelt and dramatically charged of the entire Thanos Quest so I'm willing to cut the character some slack for a silly name when he gets the best scene of the comic and a absolutely beautiful and poetic relationship with Thanos.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."

I feel like the obvious answer for how Valkyrie can be old enough to remember Hela is that Valkyrie is old enough to remember Hela.
The existence of one Asgardian who quit the field and never returned to Asgard does not in any way contradict the idea that nobody who did live in Asgard knows about Hela. It requires only for her to be older than Thor and Loki but younger than Odin, which is not unreasonable.
