Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

As for how Norse mythology exists that's older than Thor?
Perhaps prophecies like with the Ragnarok thing
Or perhaps just a plot hole
Forever liveblogging the AvengersNorse mythology dates to approximately 750-1100 CE/AD.
That’s 900-1,250 years ago. During that period, Thor would have been 250-600 years old (14-17 years old in our measurements).
HOWEVER, there’s a problem. Odin acquired baby Loki in 965 CE/AD according to the Thor prologue showing the war with Jotunheim. Loki and Thor have consistently been depicted as the same/similar age. So that would make Thor a baby in 965 AD/CE, and only slightly over 1,000 years old.
...dammit, MCU! Fix your timelines!

Jotuns and Asgardians might age differently
It'd be darkly amusing to me if there were tons of signs that Loki was adopted that just went right over Loki and Thor's heads
Like a super weird puberty for Loki or something
Forever liveblogging the Avengers- Thor: Brother! Your skin is as blue as a well-beaten minority in our glorious and most surely racially sensitive culture! What has happened to you?!
- Loki: I know not, my brother! When I sneeze, the room around me becomes encased in ice.
- Thor: This is a most terrible affliction you have succumbed!
- Odin: (scoops up Loki) IT'S FINE NOTHING'S WRONG I'M FIXING IT
- Thor: Father! What terrible curse has befallen Loki?!
- Odin: It's, uh...this is...Icicle Pox.
- Thor: Icicle Pox.
- Odin: Yes. Not too troublesome, but very contagious. I'll have to quarantine Loki until he's better! (scurries off)
- Thor:
Brother....
- Anna: Don't worry. My sister had Icicle Pox last month. He'll be fine.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Black Panther is the first superhero movie to spend 12 weekends in the top 10[1]
And Infinity War has officially jumped the billion mark. According to current estimates, it is now the 15th highest grossing movie of all time (and remember, still not started in china). Estimated drop is 56.4%, which is to be expected (most of it is the Friday drop, from Saturday to Saturday and Sunday to Sunday the drop is somewhere between 43 and 50%
Meanwhile Black Panther has jumped The Last Jedi and is now attacking deathly Hallows.
It's above the age of Disney movies. There is no way that they won't set a record this year...we all know that Wreck-it Ralph 2 and The incredibles 2 will bring in a lot of money, regardless of quality (and even more money if they deliver quality), Mary Poppins will too, based on how much money other Disney remakes did, Ant-man will certainly do well enough as will Solo, and then there are a few wild cards in the game (still think that The Nutcracker could do very well if the movie is any good, especially internationally, and Christopher Robin should hit the right nostalgia note).
RE the Thor/Asgardian chronology, I was kind of confused by the detail that Valkyrie had fought against Hela and loss, especially in conjunction with the idea that no one currently alive remembered either Hela's existence or Odin's conquering past.
So, is Valkyrie a lot older than Thor and Loki and somehow looks a lot younger than her actual age by both human and Asgardian standards?
B-because the old thing Stan Lee used to write that it was the marvel age of comics
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

I wouldn't take the "give or take" line too serious. Loki was flippant and if you actually do the math, it doesn't add up particularly well. Especially not if you consider human history, because than humans would have worshipped Thor and Loki long before they were even born. Thor mentions his age in Infinity War, btw. I have forgotten what it was, though. And there is always the question if an Asgardian year equals a human year.
I really want another Doctor Strange movie, btw.
