Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I didn’t care too much for the first Ant-Man; didn’t dislike it or anything, just wasn’t my cup of tea. So I’ll probably just read the spoilers and watch it later when it’s out on home release.
Captain Marvel on the other hand, day 1 baby.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyAnt-Man and the Wasp looks like fun, though I'm not expecting anything earthshattering. Still, maybe it will surprise me.
Captain Marvel...it's honestly hard to judge without seeing a trailer. I'm very much excited, though also a little nervous.

Ant-Man and Doctor Strange are two movies that I view as completely serviceable but also nothing I haven't seen a billion times already. Though I suppose that's a problem with origin movies in general. They usually follow the same basic beats.
It's telling that I enjoyed Strange way more as an ensemble player in Infinity War.

frankly I really don't think it says a lot about the MCU that their worst films are "serviceable". A lot of films can be considered serviceable, they're still not good
I would say it's the key to the MCU's success. They're the only superhero franchise who haven't had anything that screwed up to the point of alienating fans of the franchise, in contrast to X Men The Last Stand, X Men Origins Wolverine, Spider Man 3, The Amazing Spider Man 2 and Batman v. Superman.
They have relatively few movies, in my opinion, that stand out as geneuinely good: Winter Soldier, maybe Civil War, maybe Iron Man depending on your perspective, and Black Panther. But they have a lot that are decently entertaining, and the remainder are below-average but not terrible (in the latter category I'd put Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, Age of Ultron, and probably Ant-Man and Doctor Strange). But they don't have anything that's a complete disaster in either critical or commercial terms.
In superhero cinematic universes, it looks like part of the key to success is to avoid alienating the audience so badly that you need a reboot.

I feel mostly indifferent to Captain Marvel. I can appreciate why people may be excited for it, but I don't have a particular connection to the character and while finally getting a female protagonist is great, it would have been nice to get a Wo C-led film instead.
A lot of Marvel's most famous heroines are part of teams, I think - I don't know how many are naturally suited for solo properties. Not to say they couldn't work, of course, but it'd take some adjusting.
Only one other than Carol I can think of is She-Hulk, and I'm guessing that she has similar rights issues to the Hulk.
Oh God! Natural light!"It's telling that I enjoyed Strange way more as an ensemble player in Infinity War. " That seen to be general consesus: that he is more Doctor strange in other movies than on is own.
Galadriel: Yeah I agree with you, if anything their biggest critism is that at heart they have very "safe" in general.
I wonder how much origin story they are going to do a this point.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I'm meh on Carol as a comic character and I haven't seen enough about the movie to really give me a strong impression one way or another (although certain choices, like bringing Coulson and Fury back, the idea of it being a 90s throwback, and incorporating Mar-Vell into it do earn a thumbs up from me). The sooner it gets done so we can have a Kamala movie the better.
As for Ant-Man and the Wasp, granted it's just trailers which aren't the most representative, but I rather enjoyed the first film, and the trailers are showcasing that the sequel will have a lot of what I liked about it, but more and a wider array of it. So I'm pretty excited. It's probably not going to be amazing but a comfortable success in a niche that I've already found myself to be a fan of.
That is a major reason why DC's been struggling so badly. WB has a reputation as a creator-friendly studio that allows directors a lot more leeway than most of Hollywood, so they wanted to keep that as part of the DCEU, thinking it'd lead to another massive "prestige" hit like Nolan's Batman movies. However, they then decided to put this in a shared universe, not realizing that the strict oversight Marvel employs at least guarantees a certain base level of quality the audience can expect. It's why they've had mediocre and formulaic movies and some that were less successful than others, but nothing nearly as panned and nearly franchise-killing as Batman v. Superman.
They also have Ms. Marvel and Spider-Woman as well, but yes. Though it's not strictly women either. Marvel's quickly running out of characters who are bankable leads in the comics, so they're gonna have to start looking at ensemble players eventually. Rogue, Storm and characters like Dazzler all have potential, IMO.

I am very excited for Captain Marvel, not just because of it being the first solely female-led MCU movie (though that is the main reason) but also to see Coulson in the movies again.

This song needs more love. Was Bvs really a franchise killer if the franchise kept happening?
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
I said nearly. Hence the studio hacking Justice League to shit in the editing bay and having a high-profile change in overall direction.
I'm not sure what this means. Marvel had multiple hit origin films before Black Panther. The whole reason the franchise even exists is because Iron Man was a huge success back in 2008.

Ant-Man and the Wasp can go die in a fire. I have negative f*cks to give about that movie.
Super hyped for Captain Marvel, though. I really hope Marvel can knock this one out of the park, the way they did with Black Panther.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.![]()

I mean a solo movie with so much sucess, so far Black panther is consider the best Solo movie: Iron man 1 is good, Thor is just Ok, nobody talk about Cap 1 and the rest have be introduce in another movies.
While I like Luis, I dont not how I feel about him being the comic sidekick of such a boring chararter.
