Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

On Age of Ultron's Darkest Hour, isn't that immediately after the fight in South Africa? Because I think that's closer to the middle of the second act than the start of it.
Oh God! Natural light!Because while they're certainly not good I also don't think they're that bad, certainly not film-ruiningly so. A lot of the things you consider an absolute film-ruiner, many of us just don't, and I think it's fair to point that out. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that. I'm the kind of person who thinks Rogue One is worth watching because of the last act despite finding the first two thirds a snoozefest.

"The discovery of the Ultron body in the Cradle, Widow's kidnapping, the Maximoff's defecting, they don't succeed in making anything feel darker than it already was. So the stakes mellow out rather than increase."
If anything Ultron competency drop faster than Sokovia the moment the twins swich sides: he lost the body, vision is create, Widow caputing is idiotic and is finally fight in sokovia consist of.....sending mooks(really, for someone like Wheedon, he should now how a cliche that is) and them we have the stupid helicarrier ex machina....
If anything, the movie make the twins waaaaaaay more dangerous than him.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I think there's a bit too much hostility here for what ultimately amounts to a difference in opinion one whether Age of Ultron's flaws outshine its strengths.

Oh God! Natural light!I think everyone here needs to be careful about distinguishing between personal preference versus objective criticism.
I personally absolutely despise Age of Ultron. It actively makes me angry. This is because of both objective flaws and my own personal berserk buttons that make those objective flaws particularly offensive to me.
Whether Ultron’s structure “works” is both a subjective and objective issue, and I think one we need to move past.
If anyone wants to keep discussing Ao U, which honestly seems self-defeating at this point, resurrect the old Ultron thread. It’s overtaken this thread for almost 3 pages and it always goes poorly.

I suggest we all calm down a bit.
Adric, comicwriter, there's no need to be hostile about our opinions on Age of Ultron. There's not point to exacerbate things with snark - let's just agree to disagree and move on.
Oh God! Natural light! For my money, I do think that Age of Ultron is fairly flawed. I wouldn't call it the worst of the MCU by any means, but I think it says something that I haven't rewatched it, even though I own it on DVD.

Sorry, my bad.

Oh God! Natural light!

I'm personally with Comicwriter and Ultimatum on this. As much as I dislike Whedon and always have, I still think Avengers remains a pretty good movie on its own merits and still very rewatchable from time to time. Age of Ultron zigzags in quality but is ultimately still worth watching for the strongest bits, although I'd rather watch a recut version of it that trims some of the most obviously less entertaining parts if I can help it.
