Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I agree that Ghost looks really cool. And they're really running with this "partners" idea (even the song choice emphasizes it), which I like actually.

Scott's semi-creepy "excited laugh" continues to be amusing.

Gosh, I need a palate cleanser after Infinity War. This looks immensely fun.

It does...and I hope the rumours are true and they will release Captain Marvel earlier. I mean, if anything they just have shown that having two Marvel movies in theatres at the same time isn't necessarily to the detriment of either of them.

I hope they do release Cap Marvel earlier. If Ant-Man is dropping in July, that means Carol’s our only Marvel until May.

I think Captain Marvel was already announced to premiere before Avengers 4.

Which is good cause the audience will better acclimate to her arrival in 4.

Heh Ghost looks really cool, hope she doesn't die.

Yeah, but Carol’s our only one between Ant-Man and Infinity War. So if she comes out later, we’ll have an entire Marvel-less Summer, Fall and Winter.

Black Panther deleted scene that really fleshes out W’Kabi[1], it should’ve been in the movie.

It kinda makes him come off as even worse than he was in the finished product.

Yikes. Considering W'Kabi being a bit underdeveloped was one of my biggest nitpicks about the film, I think that scene does help flesh him out lot, and knowing a scene like that did exist make me feel better about it because it's clear they thought about it even if it didn't make the final cut. Also I knew they were in a relationship but I didn't realize they were actually married.

Also puts them in the top hundred of highest grossing movies. In less than a week. There must be a lot of rewatches.

Fudge, that W'Kabi scene is actually really good. It's especially clear why he hates that Wakanda hides from the world - someone like Klaw, a petty bandit essentially, should be able to just steal from them and escape, it's not just that he can't get revenge for his parents, it's actively humiliating for a country which is the most powerful nation on earth.

Also, W'Kabi is a reflection I think of the pitfalls of pursuing national sovereignty over broader national interests (not going to put any examples but there are probably some obvious comparisons) and his dislike of refugees is accompanied here by his hostility to the UN (after all, his king died in the UN building during a squabble because the rest of the world can't sort their shit out, from W'Kabi's POV).

I'm not sure that deleted scen showed us anything which wasn't already evident. However that was an amazing joint performance.

That Ant Man and the Wasp trailer is great. I was always more hyped for it than Infinity War.

How does an ant learn to play the drums?

Also, Scott pushing a truck like a go Kart is hilarious. And Hope shrinking so a goon punches his buddy in the face.

The appeal of the Ant-Man series is the "toy" feel of everything.

Also, do we see the micro verse being made macro? That'd destroy the universe for sure, but why would you want to do that?
