Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Isn't that at least partially intentional? Age of Ultron seemed to lean in that direction
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAOU, definitely. Civil War... ehh, there was a bit about how Sam appears to be getting tired of Steve constantly looking for another fight to jump into, but for the most part his moral faults in CW are centered around his protectiveness toward Bucky.

I think its notable that he doesn't retire after that though. He goes on looking for fights.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's really hard to call out Cap for being "addicted to violence" when he goes on missions because the world is continually in peril. Like, if things were quiet and he services were no longer needed but he insisted on finding missions to go on and people to beat up anyway, then you could make the argument that he had a problem. But until then, that's a hard sell.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. There's a decent Alternate Character Interpretation that Captain America destroyed SHIELD and hated the idea of Ultron because the idea of not having a battle to fight would kill him.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I mean he didn't HAVE to join SHIELD post-Avengers, and he has severe moral and ethically problems with how they do things. Yet he stays anyway, and he doesn't seem to have much of a social life outside of sometimes hanging out with the other hero's or old WWII vets (I mean that's apparently who he invited to the Avenger's big "we took down HYDRA" party in AOU).
So yeah the interpretation that he does it because being a soldier and going on missions is all that he knows and is the only time that he's truly comfortable and in his element, makes a lot of sense I think.
Steve never truly came home. Perhaps he would have if the story with Bucky would have gone differently....Bucky isn't really into fighting, he might have been able to pull Cap back. They explored that theme in Winter Soldier and again in Age of Ultron...one of the truly brilliant moments in the movie is that Steve is unable to imagine a world without war.
The perpendicular to canon Gotg Operation Breakout has an Ultron in the Collector's collection
Forever liveblogging the Avengers"one of the truly brilliant moments in the movie is that Steve is unable to imagine a world without war."
Something I have noticed is that that interpretation was kinda somewhat retcon in a way.
With Wheedon the idea is that he was somewhat prone to conflict and like all soldier he have a very narrow way to deal with conficts: ether he fight or he is not there.
In civil war instead they put him a chronic heroic complex, saying he MUST save people because he feel like it come as very arrogant and almost patological "Look tony, I cant stop being a hero I just cant"
While I consider Tony a jerk, I was with him in that moment of the Movie.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
While I dont want to bring another discussion, It always seen...artificial the whole "both were wrong", because eventually the movie take a nose dive from the accords to Steve and Tony emotional states, which is waaaaaaay another thing enterely.
@The Airman: How do you know there's already a bootleg on pornhub? tongue
Because a different friend than the one in China nearly spoiled the movie a day before I saw it thanks to it. Also what Shatterstar said, apparently you can also find Char's Counterattack and various video game streamers who don't want to deal with youtube/twitch/etc.'s bullshit.
Wow so MCU Cap literally is Big Boss

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyHe's got the beard. He's got the made-up African nation to hang out in.
He almost has a quirky miniboss squad (Falcon, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Bucky)
He's really only missing a young protege that is sent to kill him.

(Yes, this is a recent article.) An interesting piece
by a war veteran about how he is frustrated with the heroic portrayal of Steve Rogers in Civil War.
