Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

By going to the forum menu and accidentally clicking the wrong link, while failing to realize that I did so until after the page actually loads. The MCU and Infinity War Spoiler thread are both so busy that they have been directly adjacent to each other for the past day or so.

I looked for one second the other day, and saw some pretty big spoilers. Luckily, it wasn't too much, and it was nothing I wasn't expecting already.
Oh God! Natural light!I just want to say I like Dr. strange and Black Panther myself.
In fact, I've state multiple times that the only Marvel movie I flat out hate is Iron Man 3. Everything else, I've liked.
One Strip! One Strip!I may have been spoiled on a major character death of some sort because I forgot to unwatch the Infinity War YMMV page. I didn't look too closely so my mind is half blank as to what the context is, I just saw a certain name pop up and now I'm really nervous. Especially since I won't be able to see the movie for another week.
The only thing that matter in Iron man 2 is warmachine canon wise, and Iron man 3 actually make things confusing since Iron man "retires" in that movie and it seen he finally got better only to slip back into classic tony stark behivor.
Really contrasting Iron man 3 with Civil war is just depressing.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Yeah, Iron Man three is great for character development, but the rest of the MCU never decided to give any continuity to it's plot points.
Like, no one mentions ever again that the white House was involved in a terrorist conspiracy. And Ao U outright ignores Tony's retirement.
Yeah, For me Iron man 3 is the height of Tony as chararter, finally answering the Questin Cap did to him in the first avenger movie snd showing he is way more that just is suit.
Meanwhile Ao U Tony is just to much of a dick while CW Tony is kick around too much for my taste to care.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"It's been interesting rewatching the MCU (minus a few films I missed out on) and seeing how my opinion has changed (or not) regarding various films.
I think the ones that shocked me the most in this regard are Thor 1 and The Incredible Hulk, because they were the biggest re-evaluations.
I used to dislike Thor 1 and felt it was a frustrating film that suffered for the Earth scenes and Thor not being an interesting enough character, but looking back at it now, especially after Ragnarok, I don't find the things that put me off to be so bad anymore. I don't think it's among the strongest MCU films by any stretch, but it's alright.
The Incredible Hulk I was totally indifferent towards and now actively dislike, because it's completely mediocre and devoid of anything remotely interesting or worthwhile. It's literally one of the worst, driest scripts I've seen in a while, not helped in the least by its workmanlike direction. The fight scenes aren't even that great either.
I think every other film I watched I walked out of with more or less the same impression, just with a better understanding of why certain things worked, some more flaws or positive aspects I'd previously not fully appreciated, that sort of thing.
It's funny because there was a time (specifically after I watched IM 3) where I just gave up on the MCU altogether; the only films I had really truly enjoyed up until that point were IM 1 and to a lesser degree TFA. I had a similarly critical attitude for a long time even after Winter Soldier won me back, and there are certainly a lot of valid criticisms to be made about the franchise overall like poor diversity record (if we're being generous; it's gotten a little better with BP, certainly, but that's just a first step), but looking back on things with my current perspective I do have to give Marvel a bit more credit since I think there are things to appreciate at least a little in most of their films. The only ones I really dislike or find particularly frustrating are IM 3, TIH, and Ultron. I've heard Doctor Strange and Dark World are pretty lacking, but I haven't seen them.

I don't think that Marvel studios has ever done a truly bad movie but for one, they really improved over the years (which is a good thing) and there are a few which would have been bad if there weren't enough good stuff in it to balance out the best. The Incredible Hulk is the only movie I would call generic and forgettable, though.

How do you pop into a thread by accident? Are you routinely going to "New Posts" and just clicking on whatever, or do you have the thread followed for some reason? I've always been interested in how other people use the forums on this site. I basically just stay on the Thread Watchlist page and refresh it on a regular basis, going to my followed threads to respond to whatever's happening sometimes or just read it.
