Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I love the tape over Tom Holland's mouth.

Curious, without spoilering because I'm afraid to even Google "Infinity War", strictly on a scale of 1-10, how good is the film and how big is the shit that goes down in it? Put the second part in spoiler tags for those who don't even want to know that much.

See for yourself. So far the most frequent complaint seems to be it very much feels like part of a larger story rather than a standalone.

Please keep that to the Infinity War Spoiler Thread. Not even marked spoilers should be in here. Keep people surprised.

Knowing how things are with my family at the moment I'm not betting on being able to see Infinity War on the 27th, sadly. So the wait and pressure to avoid spoilers are even higher. But I've seen some non-spoiler-y tweets here and there that point to it being really good so that's nice to hear.

The only thing I asked for was a simple 1-10 score on the quality and Holy Shit Quotient of the film, not a link to the reviews that I'm specifically avoiding.

Two days...hopefully we can hold off for so long.

When will the review embargo be lifted? Wednesday?

Great Interview with Kevin Feige:

It's about the start of the MCU, not Infinity war, so it is save to watch for some distraction.

[up] If it's 100% almost stays that way, then It could be said that Marvel's 10 years of work were, in fact, worth the effort. (SUCK IT, MEGAFORCE. tongue)

I want to judge the movie on my own before reading any reviews, even if they’re non-spoiler-y. Sadly I don’t know if I’ll be able to avoid the rotten tomatoes score

Well, I guess this means for me I can look for it tomorrow morning. My time zone is ahead after all.

I'm not that interested in the percentage, I care about the average. Someone will ruin the 100% anyway just to get attention.

I'm very amused at the irony of the Eternals possibly being the movies' replacement for the Inhumans when the Inhumans were supposed to replace the X-Men.

[up]Yeah, it's funny. Even as someone who was REALLY looking forward to the Inhumans movie, it's a kind of bitter but deserved irony for the abomination the tv show became.

The Eternals are a cooler idea anyway.

Also, the idea of The Incredible Hercules showing up in something whether it be a film or TV show is one that excites me.

I wonder if that's being ignored in MCU Continuity? There's certainly been no indication that MCU Thanos is human at all and not just a crazy powerful alien warlord. Now that they're producing an Eternals movie its just more confusing
