Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm rather fond of Hawkeye, and I am kinda curious where he is in all the Infinity War marketing.
See, everybody says he has no superpowers, but that's not true. His superpower is being the only Avenger who's actually well-adjusted and living a happy, stable life.
I know that some might disagree, but in the last week before a release, when all the TV spots are airing, I always do my best to avoid them because they just reveal way too much. Always. And with Infinity War, I am doubly careful. I have avoided information about the movie since the second trailer dropped. I even stopped watching movie news shows and anything else which might ruin it for me.
The title of those vids tend to be spoilery.

The title of the video is not a spoiler. It says there's a fight between two opposing sides (which has already been shown in all the trailers), which, duh.

Exactly. It's not like it's autoplay.
Anyway, new Ant-Man and the Wasp photo

And plot details on the movie via Entertainment Weekly:
The film concerns the quest by van Dyne, Lang, and scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to rescue Janet van Dyne — that’s Hope’s mother and Hank’s wife — from the Quantum Realm, an alternate dimension into which she disappeared decades previously. “Scott entered the Quantum Realm in the first film and came back, which is something they thought was impossible,” says Lilly. “The question has arisen, ‘Can Janet come back?’ So the entire film, my character is hell-bent on finding a way to get into the Quantum Realm and bring her back.”
Janet is played by none other than Batman Returns actress Michelle Pfeiffer. “She hasn’t done one of these films since she played Catwoman with Tim Burton,” says director Peyton Reed. “It was really interesting to bring her in and get her up to speed on all the mythology and her place in this world.”
The film’s main villain is Ghost, who in the Marvel comic universe has traditionally been male, but in Reed’s film is played by actress Hannah John-Kamen (Ready Player One). “The Ghost character could be male, female, anything, so it just seemed more interesting to us [to cast a woman],” says Reed. “Ghost’s primary power is the ability to ‘phase,’ which allows Ghost to move through solid matter. She has all sorts of strange versions of that phasing power — it proves quite difficult for Ant-Man and Wasp to deal with.”
Other new characters include Walton Goggins’ low-level criminal-type Sonny Burch and a former colleague of Hank Pym’s named Bill Foster, played by Laurence Fishburne. “He was a blast,” says Rudd of the Matrix star. “He told me what it was like shooting Apocalypse Now and hanging out with Marlon Brando. That was just about the coolest day of work I’ve ever had.”
And the video title doesn't say that either.

Speaking of being back, I wonder if The Stinger to Infinity War or Ant-Man and the Wasp will be Scott and Hope coming back to Earth from the Quantum Realm and him saying, "I'm back. What did I miss?" and then seeing that Earth is a completely burned out and deserted post-Thanos hellscape.

Regarding the Hawkeye discussion, in my admittedly limited perspective, what's interesting about him is that he's actually a professional agent rather than a part-timer like everyone else. In the big Manhattan fight scene, Captain America sends him up to an overwatch spot to direct the flow of combat, because other tha Cap himself (who's better used just punching things), he's the only soldier on the team. (You can make an argument for Thor, but I'd call him a warrior rather than a soldier.) There's a lot to being effective in a large-scale battle that goes way beyond simply how hard you can punch things.
Of course, I have no idea how well they follow up on the concept, but that's the impression I have as of two movies into Phase Two. Most of the rest of the stuff that Hawkeye accomplishes has more to do with the insanely powerful explosives he has access to than anything else. Yeah, he makes cool trick shots, but half the time he'd be just as well off throwing a grenade or something, as long as it had the same amount of boom as his arrows. Also, he fires a hacking arrow directly into a computer port. Come on guys, that's a little bit of a stretch.
(Also, yes, I'm still planning on watching Winter Soldier tonight. Give me a few hours and I'll let you know what I think.)
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

He punked Pietro too.
And of course, he pointed out the utter ridiculousness of going into the situation they were in (an entire country being lifted into the sky while besieged by Giant Robots while he only had a bow), then went back out to kick some ass.
Hawkeye's all good. He's all good.
One Strip! One Strip!
