Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I'm sure there are superhero fight boards you'd be more happy in.

Again, drop it. We're not discussing this anymore, multiple people want this to stop.

Yeah, this wasn't at all a power level discussion.

[up] To be precise, multiple people wildly misinterpreted what was actually being talked about and are now not giving people the opportunity to make that point (also, looking back on it "multiple people" is actually just you, multiple times), which is rather unfair, but I'll defer to the masses on this one and drop it.

Comicwriter appears to have been responding to a joke post, actually, but that's on them to explain either way.

I don't think there's any discussion of power level, rather just randomly throwing questions for the lulz. Speaking of which, there's so many snarkers in Infinity War, it's going to be one hell of a job for screenwriters. [lol]

Power level discussions are tired and old.

The real new sensation sweeping the nation is 'who would win in a rap battle?'

One of the most fun things to think about for IW is seeing all these characters from different franchises meet and interact with eachother, reminding you that, yeah, these films and characters are all in the same universe. While on Earth you have the more serious, grounded tone and themes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier/Civil War and Black Panther, all the way out in space you have Guardians of the Galaxy 1+2 and Thor: Ragnarok with their, well, less serious and more fantastical tone and feel (though Got G 2 is noticeably more serious than the other two in that category). I really wanna see T'Challa, Shuri, Okoye and M'Baku meet the Guardians to drive in the feel of contrast and stuff.

What would be the best character (since this would almost certainly come after the Fox deal goes through, X-Men and F4 included) to do a musical with?
