Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The MCU got better after Whedon left because Whedon is an overrated hack and Age of Ultron is still shit. Probably one of my bottom five worst MCU movies, to be honest. Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, The Incredible Hulk, and Doctor Strange are down there too.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I'm not about to watch seven seasons of TV to see if Whedon is a good writer, solely going off of the two Avengers movies he's at best decent but way too self absorbed with throwing around dumb quips and at worst he's outright sexist and problematic as all hell.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I love Avengers but quality-wise a good chunk of the Phase 3 movies are leagues ahead of it, Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Civil War chief among them.
This song needs more love.Avengers is meh outside of its final act (every single MCU Phase 1 film is more enjoyable to me outside of Incredible Hulk and maybe Iron Man 2), and Ultron is a mess with several problems. Whedon's other work may be stronger, but let's not try and gas up his MCU work as if it's anything all that special.
For real though, you're entitled to your opinion about Whedon, but with all due respect, if all you're gonna do is act like this then there's no point in trying to have a discussion with you. You've been warned about this before.

I saw the first season of Buffy and was deeply unimpressed. Regardless, Buffy is off-topic. We’re discussing Whedon’s Avengers films.
The Avengers was an accomplishment, though parts have aged badly, like genetic third-world India scene and the Black Widow sexy chair fight. The characterization is also questionable.
I haven’t yet rewatched Age of Ultron, but, uh... I did not like my first and only viewing of it.
The more time passes between the movies and The Avengers, the more dated it feels. And I mean, I still like it to some extent (and damn it once the big battle starts at the end I giggle like I'm still in high school seeing the movie for the first time), but upon rewatch the dialogue is so much cringier and Whedon doesn't have as good a grip on writing the characters. His Tony is too much of a jackass, his Cap is too grouchy, and his Thor is too dumb (and fuck the "he's adopted" line, that's seriously OOC for Thor).
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?We have several God-like movies now that Avengers is like middle on the Marvel quality scale.
That's the ideal. Avengers was good for its time and the MCU has been mostly learning and improving since then.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIf you compare either Avengers film to Civil War, both of them look quite lacking in comparison. I know people have had criticisms about the film and many of them are understandable, but IMO its script, character writing and handling, action scenes and depth far surpasses anything Whedon accomplished.
I didn't even care for the first Avengers the first time, and even now with my generally kinder opinions on the MCU I still don't find it that engaging. It has a cool final act, but it doesn't really do anything that gets me that pumped, it has little depth, and a lot of the characterization feels slightly or noticeably off for several characters.

Lets take it easy here.
We just lost the main Star Wars thread. I don't want to lose this one too.
