Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Clark Gregg (Coulson), Lee Pace (Ronan), and Djimon Honsou (Korath) confirmed for Captain Marvel.

I didn't like Ronan at all and barely remember him above Malekith outside of putting on his armor and smashing a guy's head with a hammer, so maybe this will be the chance to make him more interesting in my eyes.

Somehow, the idea of bringing back dead villains by putting them in prequels never occurred to me. I like that idea. They could play with that a bit with a couple other characters.

That is clever.

I liked how in some respects, Civil War/Winter Soldier and Ant Man are extremely depressing codas to Agent Carter.

I just gave a might "YES" I wanted Ronan in this film so bad, he is the Kree.

Also, I'm not sure on Clark Gregg's ability to play himself but twenty five year's younger... I don't know, I've not seen him in a wig yet. Will be great to see him back in these films though.

They will probably give him the same digital face lift they gave Michael Douglas in Ant-Man.

So it's confirmed that It's Chris Evans' last film as Captain America it seems.

I still hope they pass on the shield to Falcon and keep the Captain America series going.

I imagine he dies heroically at Thanos' hands. Then maybe later the Soul Gem is used to have Captain America finally having that dance with Agent Carter.

Probably used by Tony.

[up][up] That seems...random.

Personally, I'd prefer that the Nazi didn't get the last laugh, let alone when he has no real reason to be there.

The Red Skull's ending?

He was in Asgard's prison, an old old man, who got blown up by Surtur.

Considering how he just disappeared when he touched the Tesseract I'm in favour of giving him showing up again

>He was in Asgard's prison, an old old man, who got blown up by Surtur.

umm what?

Well, that's sadly not going to happen without recasting as Hugo Weaving basically said it was the worst acting experience of his life.

I'm not sure why but he's said no to any return.

As for my above, the Cosmic Cube acted like the Bifrost with the rainbow teleportation effect. Presumably, he was teleported to Asgard—which would promptly imprison him and explain where he's been 70 years. Except, well, Asgard got blown up.

Why would they, they have no idea who he is? Unless they immediately arrest him because of his appearance not because they know he's evil..

[up]x4 Well, sure, I'd be alright if he came back, but I'd honestly hate it if he just showed up to randomly killed Steve.

Heimdall

Also, they'd only have to talk to the Red Skull five minutes before he'd gleefully tell them everything he'd done because he honestly believed STEVE would feel the thing to do to the week is mass murder them all.

They do have a way to bring Red Skull back but they certainly don't have to. Getting warped to a random part of space may not necessarily be fatal but it still could permanently keep him out of the picture. And having him show up after Thanos is defeated in Infinity War just to pop up and basically go "You thought Thanos would kill Cap but it was me, Red Skull!" would probably be the worst way to make him relevant again.

Heimdall is only aware of what he’s looking at, but there’s no way in hell he wasn’t keeping his eyes fixed on “the mortals are screwing around with an Infinity Stone.”

No it is not confirmed. This article also refers to the very same new York times interview in which he "confirms" yet again that he fulfills his contract with avengers 4 and that there are no further plans yet. For one that doesn't mean that there won't be any tomorrow and two even if there were any plans there is no way he would reveal it now. The fans would hate it if they knew for sure that he survives avengers 4.

I hope Captain Mar-Vell marks a nicer side of the Kree than we've seen in the MCU, Ronan is a terrible example to set for a whole species, and I feel like most other Marvel adaptations tend to portray them as neutral or even good to offset the evil Skrulls.

CharlesPhipps Since: Jan, 2001

Mind you, the Skrulls were originally a peace loving race which was butchered and enslaved by the Kree.

Turning them into the fanatic racists they are now.
