Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm also open to both having the identity. I think my preference though would be Sam as Captain America and Bucky wearing something like the Citizen V costume (but with fewer American flags on it), and having some dialogue referencing him using the Nomad name too.
I say that because the Citzen V costume is cool, and there's already precedent in giving a hero character the costume of a villain-pretending-to-be-a-hero in Rhoades wearing the Iron Patriot armor. And more importantly, although he isn't wearing a mask in Wakanda, Bucky seems to me like someone who would want to keep his face hidden if he's operating anywhere that SHIELD/The U.S. government/ Tony Stark is around.
And this is also assuming Bucky doesn't start wearing the White Wolf costume (which I kind of doubt will happen, although that would also be cool).

And not because he was created in 1941 where a comic starring a nonwhite lead wouldn't so much as even be considered. Let alone, how heavyset people were treated in comics back then.

I think it's mainly the "blond hair/blue eyes" thing that takes it to an intentional Take That!.
I don't think Captain America should continue if Steve dies. I think the title should die with him, same with Thor.

Honestly, I don't want anyone to get it because in 9 of 10 cases I think that legacy characters are stupid (at least regarding Marvel....DC is a little bit more complicated). There is only one Steve Rogers and for me, he will always be the only Captain America. Everyone else is just a weak cope.
The whole Captain Marvel thing is complicated because the main reason why so many characters used the name was so that Marvel could keep the title away from DC, forcing them to use Shazam instead.
Agreed with Swanpride. I'm usually only a fan of legacy characters if it's someone created for the sole purpose of being a legacy character, like Terry McGinnis or Miles Morales, or if it's someone who was built up and groomed to replace that character for most of their screentime, like most sidekicks. Most of the time, the title should die with the character.

Eh....
But then, I am one of the few people on earth who never were into Natalie Portman's acting. No matter what, I just find her bland. And yes, that includes Black Swan. I am totally into Ballet, but I just can't get through the movie because she bores me so much.
And yes, I know that this is an outlier opinion.
Bucky is a good guy, and probably wouldn't be a bad Cap (and I think he was pretty good when he held the title himself, though I don't know), but this is the top reason Sam should hold it.
One Strip! One Strip!I understand the meaning of the symbolical gesture, and I also understand that it apparently worked great in the comics, but I don't look at this from the perspective of a comic book fan. I see it from the perspective of the MCU as a body of work. Here is the problem with Cap dying in the first place:
1. We spend just three movies of Cap finding "home" again - and finding said home in Bucky. Cap now dying would be like killing off the Asgardians at the start of Infinity war. You could do it, but it would just anger an audience which has invested in those characters and wants them to have at least a period of happy end.
2. Comic book readers are used to legacy characters, but the general audience is not. Now add to this that in the MCU, barely anyone even uses their code names. Cap isn't just called Cap because he was at one point in some propaganda show, but because he is a genuine Captain, both in the war and later for the Avengers. And is Falcon the natural new leader for the Avengers? If Black Panther weren't around, maybe, but so far Sam has been mostly presented as someone who is comfortable to follow the lead of someone else.
Black Panther, Black Widow, and Ant-Man are Legacy Character
Huh, all animals.
Continue writing our story of peace.Legacy characters can be interesting, so I wouldn't mind if Steve ended up handing the title of Captain America to Sam, but I'm not bothered if the title dies with Steve, should it ever come to that.
Jane Thor could be interesting to adapt as long as Thor gets to keep his name (because TBH I always thought it was dumb that Thor had to give up his own name in the comics when Jane became Thor) but I can't see it happening in the MCU, since didn't Natalie Portman not want to do any more MCU movies? Not that they couldn't adapt that storyline for another character, of course.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.So I just heard about a theory in regards to the Stones:
The Tesseract, the Aether, the Eye of Agamotto (as a Necklace), and Orb (that held the Power Stone) and Loki's Sceptre.
Or to be more precise: Tesseract, Aether, Necklace, Orb, and Sceptre.
Now this is either the biggest coincidence ever, or a well planned clue, but either way, all we're missing is an H.
One Strip! One Strip!

I don't have a preference. I don't care which of the two gets it.
