Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

"He isn't back-sliding in Civil War...quite the opposite, he is overshooting in the opposite direction. "
It is stil sliging back: he is trying to control everything and everyone because a misplaced sense of personal guilt and blow up everything like he always do, is the same tony of Iron man 2 and AOU, he learn nothng from before.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"You know, given how various interviews have said stuff like: "Vision's story is like a horror movie" and "Hawkeye's story is a journey of self-reflection" combined with the sheer number of characters in this film, I can't help but wonder if Infinity War is going to pull off all these drastically different arcs without invoking Mood Whiplash.
Oh, please. He took a role in a play. That is hardly a long-lasting commitment.
After Avengers 4, there will first be a Spider-Man and a Got G movie. Last official quote I heard from Chris Evans was "if they want me, they get me". The question here is if Marvel wants him, and they won't reveal this before Avengers 4 is in Theaters to not spoil anything.
Yeah I'm pretty much expecting Cap and Tony to both die. Possibly at the same time and possibly in a vague enough way for them to comic book their way back to life.
This song needs more love.Maybe they could copy the Bolivian Army Ending from The Thanos Imperative, where they supposedly sacrifice themselves to stop Thanos, but it's unclear if they're really gone or not.
Nah, I expect Tony to die and Cap to survive...and that they do the famous panel from the Death of Captain America, jut switched around. Either that or Cap die in Infinity war but then Tony screws around with Time in Avengers 4 which leads to him dying in Caps place.
Even though Marvel has already options in place to replace Cap if necessary, they have written the character so well that there is still a lot they can explore with him. And in a lot of ways he is actually not replaceable. (and remember, the main reason why Chris Evans didn't have a nine movie deal all along was because he refused to commit to more than six).

I can see both going out in the end, brother in arms, allá Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It Has Been an Honor and all.

"All you Fascists bound to lose.""Since we're about to die, are we friends now, Steve?"
"Geez I don't know if now is the time for an emotionally cathartic conversation, Tony"
"THEN WHEN"

Forever liveblogging the AvengersLike a devoted spouse or parent, Tony has done the equivalent of making a month worth of meals before going on a trip
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAs much as I don't like it, I think that of the two, Steve is way more likely to die- due to a combination of Evans longstanding interest in moving on, RDJ being the center of the films for better or worse, and there being two characters primed to take on the mantle of Captain America.
And while maybe not the best example, since it's not a great movie, but with Ultron, AOU showed that the MCU avoids revolving door mortality, despite the fact that it's a common thing in comics, even when it's basically a character's entire shtick.
My prediction is that Thanos will kill Steve and maybe depower him first, such that Steve and Tony's last conversation will riff on that dialogue in the first movie about him being nothing but the serum.
Edit- In terms of a scene of Steve going out fighting despite being depowered, I'm torn because I really like the scene leading up to Secret Empire where Crossbones is close to killing Steve, and you see Steve's life basically flash before his eyes before he gets repowered via Cosmic Cube and then mops the floor with Crossbones. It's a great scene and it would be awesome to see that with Steve and everyone else beating up Thanos (vaguely reminds me of the ending of Fullmetal Alchemist).
However, of couse that scene in the comics was the prelude to revealing that Steve was a Nazi. So, not sure if it's a great panel to imitate on screen.

Disagree....due to a combination of RDJ aging out of the role, the insane salary they have to pay for him and because it simply makes sense on a narrative level, Tony is way more likely to die. As I said, Chris Evans really changed his tune regarding his role, plus, there is no need to have him as a lead character around. I think that he will be very ready to reprise the role every few years as long as he gets enough room for his own project and his family. And yes, Marvel has planned for Cap dying, just in case he wouldn't be available - but if you listen to Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie it doesn't sound like they will replace him anytime soon.

Indeed. Though I have to wonder if a Batman villain wouldn't rate Man of Steel higher simply to spite Batman.
