Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

We know Captain Marvel takes place in the 90's. So I'm guessing she'll end the movie stranded or trapped in stasis somewhere out in space. Possibly minus a scene at the tail end explaining how she ultimately got back to Earth in time for Avengers 4.
If it's directly tied in to the events of Infinity War, then maybe a cool way to do it would be to have Infinity War and Captain Marvel end with the same event from two different perspectives.
...I do realize this really parallels Captain America: TFA a lot, but I doubt Carol Danvers will be literally frozen in the arctic ice so it won't be the exact same situation.
I don't know how they are going to handle Monica if she really is in Captain Marvel. There are other options but my guess is that she won't get powers in Captain Marvel and remain on Earth, and is simply aged up a bit in the sequel.

The people of Wakanda right now
◊. (spoilers)
Maybe something with the Infinity Stones somehow brings her into the present.

Yeah, I can really see something like the comics' Achebe stuff happening, because after Thanos and co. land in Wakanda, Wakanda is going to be wrecked.
It's kind of funny in a sad way that Black Panther does such a great job of selling the country as an amazing (if somewhat flawed) place and then the next movie is presumably going to have the populace slaughtered and the country in ruins.
It's not going to look good for T'challa though. Two years into his reign, which is already controversial for banking isolationist trends, he 'invites' a space conflict to happen in Wakanda.
I know in truth he's doing he right thing to stop half of everyone dying, but it's gonna do hell for his approval rating.
Ah well, he's king now. Done the ceremony. Short of another surprise relative or an assassination attempt he doesn't have to worry about accountability. (though if he becomes a hated monarch he's pretty much ensuring his next of kin is going to get beaten up/killed during their induction ceremony.)
As was alluded to earlier, the MCU movies have some issues with killing Africans. So, even though New York and Sarkovia got by relatively unscathed (well, until Civil War took a more cynical view of the collateral damage), I'd expect the people of Wakanda to fare a lot worse, given precedent in South Africa and Nigeria.
Not to mention, outside of the "problematic" side of things, Wakanda seems to be filling the role in Infinity War as Xandar did in GOTG- it's basically a Red Shirt Army that valiantly, but fruitlessly resists the Big Bad and his forces.
The MCU doesn't have an issue with "killing Africans". It just has gotten in the habit of staging big battle scenes in Africa or Asia or Europe - most likely to make it more appealing for the international audience. I mean, if we don't get a hero of our own, we can at least watch them taking apart out airports.
We don't know how many casualties, if any, there were from the Hulk's South Africa rampage. They even did a Megas XLR and identified a building as conveniently empty before bodyslamming a monster into it.
Yeah, I can't see MCU Hulk deliberately grabbing innocent bystanders and crushing them into a fine red mist. At most, Hulk's casualties would be due to collateral damage, and the most collateral damage he was doing in Age of Ultron was tossing a few cars aside while staying in the same general location. He probably had more collateral damage kills in New York in Avengers, just because he was moving around a lot more.
I think that Wakanda is less likely to be cannon fodder than the Nova Corps, if only because they have Black Panther, who I think is unlikely to job to make someone else look good.
(Also, Thanos invading Wakanda was taken from Infinity, where, as has been mentioned, they actually won, though granted, Thanos didn't go there himself.)
Oh God! Natural light!I'd guess we'll see the Wakandan forces holding against Thanos's troops for a while, but they'll be getting worn down and about to break when Thanos finally gets his hands on whatever Infinity Stone(s) Wakanda has, at which point he'll declare "Mission Accomplished" and leave, taking his army with him.
