Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, I thought that was one of his better pages. There's stuff that's worse, though.

Oh God! Natural light!Did a quick look through his portfolio, and a lot of people give him shit for using his own work for referencing, which, honnestly I don't care about because every artist uses referencing.
However I've already noticed that he had this problem of giving a lot of his female characters interchangeable faces.
I don't really expect Monica to look that light skinned for instance.
That's also because he tends to trace A LOT From magazines (especially, um "adult" ones). So he'll literally take a woman's facial expression from a magazine, and use it for a bunch of his female characters. So not only do they all look "samey," but their facial expressions often don't even fit the situation that they're in a the time.
People gave him shit for giving Monica short, Euro-style hair when she traditionally had dreadlocks and afros, not just because of iffy implications, but also because he almost certainly did that because it's way easier to find magazine photos of straight-haired women than it is to find pictures of women with dreads. So it was both out of character and artistically lazy.
I also imagine some of the Asgardians will survive because otherwise it kinda pointlessly negates Thor's character arc from the last movie. He learns to become a king and accepts the responsibility of being a ruler...only to then have that become completely irrelevant 10 minutes later when Thanos kills everyone.
Of course this wouldn't be the first instance of a movie in this franchise undoing or ignoring a plot point from a previous movie, but this would be really blatant.

Can I just gush about how fantastic the sound design in that trailer is? The fucking action and editing synch up perfectly with the Avengers theme in the background, and it gives the whole trailer this epic feel. I hope the movie itself does that, synching up the action scenes to the musical beats of the background music because it is powerful and impactful as fuck!
The best theory I heard is that right after having been thrown in jail and breaking out, the Avengers called him up and said they needed his help to save the universe from a genocidal alien god, and Clint was just like "Fuck you guys" and hung up the phone.
Sounds like Thanos has the biggest role of the film
.
The Russos also say there are characters who don't get a lot of screentime in this one that'll have much bigger roles in the follow-up next year, and vice-versa, characters with a lot of screentime here who have much smaller parts in the next one.
Not sure if this was posted here or not, but Lashana Lynn is in final negotiation to be in Captain Marvel, replacing DeWanda Wise
.
That's some fast recasting.

Well, they're off to a great start. With just one line of dialogue:
Thanos: "I hope they remember you."
Thanos already has more nuance than some other Marvel villains.

Boy, the Saturns really do love Black Panther so they have it nominated for almost all the categories for films from 2017. I know it's a common practice for them, but geeze.
Also what are you doing here, Iron Fist?
I wonder if the stinger for this film might be Captain Marvel arriving back on Earth? She's apparently not in this movie, but IS in Avengers 4. And given that Feige has described her as "the most powerful MCU hero so far," it seems like she might be a prime candidate to help turn the tide against Thanos if/when she shows up finally?
I guess it is too much too hope that Ao S will win the Saturn awards, even though its fourth season blew all the other shows out of the water.
Lack of options. Best superhero TV show distributed exclusively by streaming services in 2017 isn't exactly a wide category. Pretty much every single entry in that field got a nomination for the sake of even having a list to pick from.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.![]()
It bugs me that The Flash got a more nominations that AOS, because The Flash is really quite bad (poor dialogue, dumb plots), even if sometimes entertaining, while AOS (from Season 2 onwards) has generally better acting, dialogue, plotting, and complexity.
Not surprised about BP getting lots of nominations, as it's actually good. Merely existing seems to be sufficient for a Saturn Award nomination in some categories, irrespective of quality (Alien Covenant? Kong: Skull Island? Valerian? Fate of the Furious?), so when a movie manages to be good in addition to containing multiple female characters it's bound to get lots.

Ao S is just criminally underrated. I have the hope, though, that with time it will be acknowledged as the great show it is.

I mean, I don't expect being blind to stop that man, but it would give him an excuse to sit out the rest of the film.
Regardless, yeah, Valkyrie having a small role is going to be weird.
