Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Is anyone else thinking that IW will end up making less (at least domestically) than BP?
Going by the grosses of AOU and Civil War, the last two movies featuring lots of Avengers, there's no particular reason to expect IW to make over $600 mil. Avengers did so because it was the first good-quality big superhero team-up movie, but now that's less of a novelty.

Different styles of humor but both had humor that enhanced the story.
If I'm gonna be honest, I'm outright expecting Infinity War to not make as much as Black Panther. It'll make a lot but nowhere to Black Panther's extent.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I’m not sure whether I want Infinity War to surpass Black Panther. On the one hand, I hope IW is amazing and lots of people appreciate it and it makes tons of money as the culmination of Marvel’s long term planning.
On the other hand, I want Black Panther to be remembered as it deserves- as an incredible film in its own right, and as a symbol of what happens when you hire inclusively and give backing to the voices and stories of people of color.
I expect BP to beat IW at the domestic box office. For one thing, BP is making tons of money, and in addition, it has a relatively open field until IW debuts at the end of April - that's another 6-7 weeks to build on its already-formidable box office gross.
IW has 3 weeks to work with before Deadpool 2 comes out, followed by Solo a week later. It'll continue making some money after that, of course, but I'd expect a large drop-off.

"Compare it to GOTG if you want to actually make the comparison significant. AOU was not exactly a high point. "
Yeah, that was my point,, both movies dosent know well when to shut up.
Hell I can complain about GOTG in a lot of things but so far they know when to shut up and let the action talks on is own, having one of the most dramatic moment(when Ego said casualy about murdering Peter mother) and Ronan was pretty serious even if the movie was funny.
Meanwhile some moments of Ragnarok feels like a weird comedy sketch shoehorn in it for laughs.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Ragnarok knows plenty well in many scenes when to let it breathe some, with a couple of exceptions. I'd hardly compare anything in it to swill like Age of Ultron.
Probably helps that the comedy in it is good instead of annoying, dumb, or kind of crudely sexist.

I agree in some cases like the whole "strongest avenger" or hulk interaction, but some of the dialogue come as pretty cringe by how out of place they are, Banner dialogue with Thor come as really out place and I feel like watching a sitcom, or feel trying to hard like Thor haging there in front of Sultur.
And of course the worst ofender is grandmaster, dear Odin Ragnarok does have the worst post credit scene EVER!.
I tink is also in how movies aproach humor, it maybe weird for me saying this, but I really like how Civil war handle the humor from most part, well except the tony stank joke which was funny but unecesary.

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Banner in general is really freaking weird in Ragnarok. It's a little off putting sometimes.
In general, while Ragnarok is definitely one of if not the funniest MCU movie, I'd've preferred a little less humor/action and a little more plot, but eh. There were definitely a few cringey moments. Like a lot of Korg's humor towards the end of the movie.

Well in my case I like more situational humor or play by acting, which is Why i like civil war the most when is dealing with jokes, here my issues is the dialogue that it feel pretty damn unatural most of the time, like the whole "Im tony stark" moment, I didnt make me laught and just ask "Ok, WHY are you taking like that all the sudden?"
Which is why I didnt like Grandmaster, is just there taking and being silly over and over, the final moment when he just stand there taking was just grating for me.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"People are allowed to not think things are funny.
And if you don't think Jeff Goldblum is funny, that's a nightmare.

My various fanfics.

So, I just saw Thor ragnarok and....Im divided about it.
I mean, looking how it started, with Thor taking to Sultur is pretty much resume my issues with the movie: it have one of the BEST fights so far and I love how Thor used his hammer and his cockyness but is interject with the most forced humor EVER, it remid me of AOU and his inhability to shut up.
Also, Valkyrie stole the show hand down, if they go with Lady thunderstrike, she should be the one, that is a fact.
