Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I wouldn't count Agent Carter because her show was set before she died
That's a very different animal
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWhen people talk about deaths not sticking in the MCU, they're mainly talking about good guys. Supporting characters or villains remaining dead aren't the point. The question isn't phrased perfectly, because what they're really saying is, "Every time you kill off a hero, they spring back to life, so why should I be concerned with the prospect of major Avengers dying?" Which is a more fair criticism.
In addition to Bucky, Stark, Coulson, Fury, and J.A.R.V.I.S., let's also add Groot to that list.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.All of these deaths are fake-outs. That's the point. They're like, "Oh no, this character died," and then they're like, "PSYCHE he's back it's fine."
And fans have caught on to that and now they're just like, "So, who's fake-dead today?"

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Plus since it involves the Infinity Gauntlet, where the comics storyline had everything die and get resurrected at the end, it's hard to think of death as permanent when something that powerful is in play.
The Protomen enhanced my life.People do complain about the entirety of human folklore.
Like. It's literally a trope.
Marvel's pulled a lot of death fakeouts and outright resurrections, and that's a genie you can't stuff back in the bottle. As a result, it's hard for some fans to take the threat of killing off major characters seriously. This happens to a lot of series; Marvel isn't unique or special in that regard.
EDIT: Wong! Wong's another one. He was resurrected onscreen through time magic.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I think revealing someone survived within the same movie is different than bringing them back after the fact. The only major people that died and came back later are Bucky and Coulson. The former had a Disney Death so fucking telegraphed that any comic reader should have anticipated his return. The latter is still dead for all the movies care.
I don't think that distinction matters that much if your concern is that Marvel's going to be like, "Iron Man just died! OH NO!" and then you'll be like, "Wait for it," and then ten minutes later Marvel will be like, "Whoops, he was alive all along! Or just popped back to life!"
Like. These are all a bunch of arbitrary distinctions when the main point of contention is Like You Would Really Do It. That is how people feel. They feel like any major character "killed off" will just be brought back to life immediately after.
Quicksilver is notable specifically for the fact that he's an aversion. And people are livid that he is, because everyone and their dog gets to be brought back but Quicksilver got Killed Off for Real.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Foxsilver's overrated. He was an otherwise forgettable character who happened to have one cool scene before quitting out on the movie.
Marvelsilver never quite tops that one cool scene, but he has a consistent presence and manages to be entertaining and memorable throughout the film.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I think I agree with comicwriter. The only thing that really sticks with me is his catchphrase. I can remember a few other things, like his death, but I don't those really have anything to do with his character being memorable.
Oh God! Natural light!I mean, Foxsilver's a one scene wonder. But it's a good scene. And he's got an identity. Marvelsilver's just kind of a nonentity.
I mean, just give me one character trait of Marvelsilver. One.

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Yeah Foxsilver literally steals the show whenever he's in due to his manic energy & his bullet-time sequences are considered the best moments of the movies.
Marvelsilver................ he tried catching Mjolnir that one time.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I thought Marvelsilver was entertaining; very charismatic and one of my favorite parts of Ao U. I haven’t watched the Foxsilver movies, but I’ve watched video clips of some of his scenes and I do not like what I’ve seen of him.
Trying to catch Mjolnir is a nice character moment, I think.
But that's like...all he gets.
Oh God! Natural light!

Couslon doesn't appear in the movies anymore (the one part they care about)
We knew Bucky was coming back when the second Cap movie was titled "Winter Soldier"
Fury is gonna Fury
And Jan still up in the air.
Like they're showing restraint considering comics bring back characters after like 8 seconds.
