Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

A young black mutant whose power is absorbing knowledge. I think he could fit quite well in Netflix-like stories, unlike most mutants who are a bit too over-the-top.

Scarlet Witch getting a film series where she interacts with the supernatural (in contrast with Strange's Cosmic) is a pet want of mine.

I would be really here for that. Wasn't her recent solo along those lines? I think she was going around trying to fix the problems with magic or something. I thought that was cool.

And yes, I would be so here for a Kamala Khan movie. And a She-Hulk legal series.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

That sounds cool, opens up a lot more room for creative applications of superpowers; the usual agility/strength combos are a bit limiting.

I don't care which hero they have to adapt to make it happen, but I want Devil Dinosaur to appear. And not the Moon Girl version, this version.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

[up] x3

I didn't get to finish her recent title, but it was satisfying watching her travel the earth, reconnecting with old friends who happen to be figures of folk lore, and dealing with a minotaur and a warlock.

Its a genre Blade works better with, but I expect Blade to end up on Netflix.

I think Scarlet Witch works best when she's allowed a relationship with her children. So I'd like to see the convoluted backstory for Wiccan and *checks smudged writing on hand* Speedball. Chuck Hulkling in there at somepoint too.

One of the greatest moments in all of comics is when Billy and Teddy visited her in New Avengers and she was weird hippy mom burning ludicrous amounts of incense, being supportive, and telling them stories about tree weddings

I demand more weird hippy mom Wanda

A Expy of Prodigy is one of the central characters in Legion and he's great there.

The one dinosaur I want to see in the MCU is this one.

[up][up][up] I freaking love that moment. I could totally see MCU's Goth Wanda mature into a Hippy Wanda over the next decade.

The time span of her parenthood is a bit strange. Even with the kids being aged skipped. You can't skip to them being teenagers straight away because then her perantage of them doesn't feel earned. Moreover MCU Wanda is quite young, but I think that'll make her perantage all the more interesting.

Probably pop them into existence as ten or twelve year olds in a hypothetical Phase 4 solo film, and then they'd be an appropriate age for a Phase 5 young avengers film.

I'm trying to remember this fan fiction I wrote where Wolverine is sent back in time to the Cretaceous period, and some mishap with a misquito causes a dinosaur to gain his power set. The dinosaur then lives all the way to the present day, slowly developing super human intelligence, and then tells Sauron to his face that he's a phoney and a poser.

Sauron cries.
