Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

x2 I thought Chris Evans renewed his contract to last after Infinity War?
Personally, I think Magneto deserves his own trilogy.
Movie 1: Origin movie + friendship with Professor X. The beginnings of his philosophy.
He goes from a kid to young adult.
Movie 2: Rise of his Brotherhood and his conflicts with Professor X, Shield, Hydra and the US.
Young man to a married man in his 30's.
Movie 3: The creation of Genosha.
Family man in his late 30's decides that separation rather than usurping control over the world is the best option. He takes control of a hidden chain of islands and creates his own mutant society.
Or you can just make Magneto's entrance to the MCU with him in control of Genosha and you can tie him in with Scarlet Witch because he needs an heir and she's his only daughter now that Pietro is dead.
(Wanda thought her parents were killed but those weren't her actual parents. They were her guardians until Magneto returned).
There's a case to be made that the First Class trilogy is already a Magneto character arc. As much as Magneto is tricky to deal with because - as a central character and Xavier's primary foil - you kind of have to have him, if they're doing a developed multi movie series for someone I'd like to see someone else or other focuses.
Wow gone for a while and already the comments pile up.
First off, sorry I didn’t put up spoilers for last night regarding Klaw’s death, good thing its covered.
Second, @Adric Blasphamy. Whitesnake is awesome! Especially with the song “Still of the Night”. It has the best guitar riff and a really atmospheric climax in its middle that is very soothing to listen to in controdiction to its agressive beginning and end. Definitely one of their best hits.
Third, and more to the point,
yeah agree; by all accounts the Prequel Trilogy of the X-Films are technically focused on Magneto’s development into the villain he is as well as the origin of how Professor Xavier form the X-Men.
In fact I would be happy if Marvel decide to introduce the X-Men to the MCU they take an Incredible Hulk approach with the film by making the movie be a soft reboot/spiritual sequel to the last X-Men movie. That way we can get a new X-Men film continuity without having to worry about the need of covering a full on origin story.
EDIT: Speaking of Magneto and his origins. I do think its possible to give him a new origin involving a different kind of real life human oppression so that he won’t be a wrinkly old man in film or be cgi’d throughout the film. Unless they are going with his full powersets in the movie which also involves him having a retarded aging process; then totally go for WWII origin and canon wield his encounter with Cap.

So do you think we'll ever get a Nick Fury solo film? Either a prequel or film set in the present. The Prequel sounds more interesting, especially if you use the Howling Commandos. Obviously you cant set it in WWII,. but the War on Terror or even Desert Storm could work as a setting.

x3 Yeah, pretty much. To think this was only his first week as king. Hate to imagine what the rest of his years are like probably him and Everest fucking with the devil himself on the eigth week.
x2 I don’t think a prequel will happen due to three reasons:
1) Nick Fury is better used as a supporting character than main. This is kind of why his solo comics (Howling Commandos and Agent of SHIELD) aren’t in high demand like the other characters.
2) It would be a challenge to make a prequel interesting, as the audience already knows the ending so they won’t have a lot of investment in what happens so the movie has this challenge to make the hows very interesting.
3) The stigma of that tv movie starring David Hasselhoff. Sure Marvel manage to do good shit with the characters who suffer from unfortunate movie past (Captain America, Daredevil, Howard the Duck,Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, The Punisher, Fantastic Four . . . sooooooon), but I don’t think the production team are interested in doing a Nick Fury movie.
I mean age isn’t a problem with Samurai Jack since he’s the same age for over 50 years; I guess the problem is if people do want a prequel movie that focus on his character as to me I enjoy the character a lot as this badass leader with a dark and mysterious past that made him director of the free world, and a prequel will take away that mystique of his.
I don't think that there has been any confirmation of any of the current actors renewing their contracts....they all seem to be open to more, especially Chris Evans has been pretty vocal about having changed his mind and now being ready to be around as long as Marvel wants him (yes please!), but I haven't seen any specific news and I don't think that we will hear any until after Avengers 4.
If they make Magneto a survivor of a more recent genocide, to avoid the Unfortunate Implications they can make Xavier a survivor of the same genocide.
Or maybe race-lift Magneto to make him part of a minority that suffers a shitload of racism. Either African-American or (given recent events) Mexican-American would do the trick.
Speaking as a Jewish person, I'd prefer Magneto to be kept as a Holocaust survivor.
And being similar to the best MCU antagonist is bad... how?
Magneto: “While you fought Hydra, Hitler killed millions of my people”
Steve: ...
I really think an MCU reboot of the X-Men should just leave out Magneto for a good long while, the same way Spider-Man: Homecoming chose to reuse as few characters as possible from the previous Spider-Man movies. Same goes for Wolverine.
As for the whole Holocaust survivor thing . . . they could always just ignore it. Not contradict it or specifically say it didn't happen, just focus more on what he's been up to the last few decades without doing any sort of deep dive into his past.
"Wait, you survived the Holocaust? How are you still alive and so buff?"
"Magnets"
Bam, done. Just like several other people suggested
Also if they do use Magneto instead of antagonist he should be Xavier's partner
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI doubt that many people in the audience would question Magneto's WWII backstory (especially since him being a Holocause survivor is one of the most well-known aspects of his character, and we already have Cap and Bucky as well). Just come up with some sci-fi-esque explanation for it, and as long as he's an interesting character, people will probably just roll with it.

I think it would work better for Magneto to be the son of two Holocaust survivors if you don't want to work in that mutants have slower aging.
You can even work in that Magneto's parents were later killed by Hydra/Nazi agents under the employ of the US government.
Also, I agree that Magneto shouldn't be a villain that's become similar to the Nazis that he hates.
He should be an anti-hero that disagrees with Professor X's way of doing things but he doesn't want mutants ruling over the world.
He wants to mutants to separate themselves from the humans and create their own society which leads to Magneto creating a mutant homeland called Genosha and ruling over it.
We can even have pretty good dynamic between King T'Challa and Magneto(they'd be neighboring countries) with Magneto being more like King T'Challa's predecessors in that he wants to hide their society from the world to keep his people safe.
