Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Carol's Evil Counterpart. Because there always has to be one in these movies.
I'm not sure if they were planning on it already, but Black Panther and Wonder Woman's success has theater owners asking for more diverse blockbusters now
, so that's essentially just more of a push for them to introduce Kamala at some point.
EDIT: Didn't realize the casting announcement had already been posted.
Anyways, given that we know that Carol Danvers's origin story is going to be changing somewhat, and that her powers initially came from being infused with Kree DNA, and Minerva is a Kree geneticist, I feel very comfortable speculating that she's going to be connected with Carol Danvers getting her powers.

It doesn't have to be everyone, as long as Kamala is her biggest fan. She could be the Miguel to Carol's Ernesto De La Cruz: while everyone is gushing over Iron Man or Thor, she's the one going "I've heard/read about Captain Marvel, and she was amazing!" and being inspired by the icon of days past.
To go to an extreme, even, they could have Kamala be Tim Drake-esque and be unique to the extent of having all sorts of research on Captain Marvel that most people don't.

So to toss my hat in the ring of post-Infinity War speculation, I think the MCU will probably want another over-arching villain for whatever their next Myth Arc will be; since the Avengers is the event franchise, they will probably be an Avengers villain. Loki, Ultron and Thanos will probably be off the table. So: I think their next Big Bad will be Kang the Conqueror. They can even adapt Kang Dynasty from Kurt Busiek's run.
I haven't read Kamala's comics, and it's all contingent on Captain Marvel but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the route they end up going.

I believe I heard something about them maybe doing more movies set in the past?
If so, and they wanted to do another Myth Arc, Kang would be well suited for that.
Oh God! Natural light! For anyone who's interested, here's how Black Panther
compares to Avengers 1
on a day to day scale.
Right now, BP's sitting at $404 million domestic. At this equivalent point in the first Avengers movie's lifespan, it was at $373 million domestic.
BP might actually dethrone Avengers as the highest-grossing Marvel film of all time.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub."Black Panther's Avengers"
STARRING!
- T'Challa
- Okoye
- Nakia
- Shuri
- M'Baku
- Sam Wilson
- Col. James Rhodes
- Luke Cage
- And the Cinematic Debut of Monica Rambeau
Funnily enough, because IMDB cast lists for upcoming films are in order of "Starmeter," Letitia Wright is the first billed for Infinity War right now.
Followed by Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Tessa Thompson (who's still only listed as 'rumoured').
Oh and Linda Cardellini is listed higher than most of the Avengers.

Wakandan tech?
I really don't know myself. In retrospect compared to the rest of the invasions BP was the only one to successfully fend off a member of the Black Order.
For example of how well the others did Corvus Glaive skewered Wolverine like it was a barbecue.
Ha.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I will say this, one of the things that Black Panther really makes me excited about for the MCU as a whole, more of an out-of-universe thing, is that he represents a headliner that can lead the brand going forward into the post Infinity War era.
I mean, they've had no shortage of successes, but Ant-Man, Dr. Strange or even the Guardians haven't had the large-scale impact and pull that they had with, say, Iron Man, and I've been worried for a while that after Infinity War they'll have filtered off their previous headliners but have left characters that haven't really gotten the audience to really rally behind the universe.
Black Panther's been galvanizing audiences, so going forward he could very well be the personality that can be the new face of Phase 4.
Much like Tony Stark being the new creator of Ultron, in the MCU Kang the Conqueror will be T'Challa from a Bad Future.
