Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

James Gunn says no X-Men will appear in Infinity War.
Mostly because the Disney/Fox deal isn't finalized yet.
I mean, most of us knew that already, right? Still nice to get confirmation regardless.
I mean, given how long Infinity War's been planned, I wouldn't imagine the X-Men would appear in it anyway? This isn't like the Sony deal, where they specifically contracted to use Spider-Man on grounds that they have to start using him almost immediately. This is an asset purchase. If they buy Fox's assets, there's no other company that has say in how those assets get used. They become Disney's, period.
What I'm taking away from this isn't confirmation that the X-Men won't be in Infinity War. It's confirmation that the X-Men will be joining the MCU at some unforeseen point in the future. If they weren't coming to the MCU, there'd be no point in specifying, "This movie, specifically, won't be where they arrive."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I wouldn't mind it. She's so thoroughly divorced from actual Inhumans plots that it really doesn't matter where her powers come from. Being an Inhuman isn't important to her character at all; it's just the source of her powers.
If going, "She's a mutant, 'nuff said," is an easier way to get Kamala into the MCU than finding a way to expose her to terrigenesis, then go for it. It doesn't really matter where her powers come from, only that she gets them and is the awesome character fans know and love.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
Agreed.
My one sticking point with introducing Kamala to the MCU was that it didn't seem right for her to show up before Carol Danvers does, because unlike terrigenesis, Danvers is such a huge part of Kamala's character. But that problem won't be a thing in a year, so now's the time to start talking about how to bring in Kamala.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's a similar thing to the rumor Spider-Man was in The Stinger to Age of Ultron, even though the deal was hashed out before the movie premiered the creative process takes time and they aren't going to throw in a half-conceptualized idea after the movie is effectively locked (a sloppy stinger can even cause negative hype). The rights buy-out is still in the process, and both Infinity War movies have FAR too many characters to toss in another introduction on the side.
Yes, because even with Captain Marvel being set in the 90's, it'd still be awkward for her introduction to the MCU to be Kamala fangirling about how awesome this one superhero that no movie-going audience has ever heard of is. Even though the movie's a prequel, she should still be properly introduced to movie-goers before Marvel tries to introduce a character who revolves around how awesome she is.
Unless you want Kamala to be fangirling over Tony Stark instead, Carol's movie should come out first.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yes. Like I said earlier, with about a year until Danvers makes her MCU debut, now would be a perfect time for Marvel to start talking about introducing Kamala. The one hurdle will be resolved in a year's time.

I can count two uses outside of the party scene. In Iron Man 3, the unibeam straight-up killed Savin, Killian's right-hand guy. Stark uses it to blow a hole through his chest and Savin goes down.
And then there's Civil War, where the Unibeam blew Bucky's metal arm off. Just...gone. No more robot arm.
Granted, that's only two instances, but when the Unibeam does get used, it's pretty much the game-ender it's supposed to be.
