Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Though it is certainly worth to watch T'challa being introduced in Civil War, too, if that's what interests him.
After watching Black Panther, I have two questions for Infinity War:
1:Where is the Soul Stone? My guess is that finding it will comprise the bulk of the initial action. Or, Thanos starts out having it and the Avengers are trying to prevent him from getting the rest of it.
2: Where was Steve during Killmonger's coup and the subsequent civil war? Don't get me wrong, it was definitely better for the movie to not include him, but my understanding of Civil War's post credits scene is that both Steve and Bucky were hiding out in Wakanda.
On #2, a lot of people were asking that but unfortunately the answer was in a prequel comic Marvel published for Infinity War.
Basically: Steve dropped Bucky off in Wakanda but didn't stay. He, Falcon and Black Widow are now traveling the world together as a secret vigilante group, stopping terrorists and supervillains under the radar.

Wonder if that'll get referenced in the movie; seems like too big a thing to ignore, but also most people will be like "Damn, wish we could have gotten more of that on-screen" like the second Avengers team (the one that formed at the end of Age of Ultron so I don't know if they'll do it.
On a related note, who are the "legal" Avengers now? Tony seems like he's back in active duty, and Vision is the only other candidate considering that Rhodey is probably still in therapy for his paralysis and Peter refused his offer at the end of Homecoming.
If you think about it it doesn't make any sense for Steve to squat in Wakanda when his point of contention with the accords was he couldn't go around fighting where he wanted
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
Sure, but there is currently nothing which would require more than one or two heroes. Well, aside from the impending destruction of the earth, but that is for Ao S to handle.

Tony's Mighty Avengers is pretty much him and Vision, with Rhodey contributing, but only so far as his rehabilitation allows him to. I guess?
Cap's Secret Avengers seem even worse off, being, what, Him, Black Widow and Sam? The implication at the end of Civil war is that both groups will work independently, but like, these groups are so small! You can't have an avengers team of three people. It should be 4, minimum.
Where's Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch in all this?
I'd like to see more of what the avenger teams get up to between films. The post Ao U roster operated for a year but we've never seen the entire team out on an op. And I would absolutely like to hear of heroes tackle natural disasters more. Not the most interesting plot wise, but Vision could single handedly evacuate anyone trapped in any scenario if someone told him where to go.

Movie Hawkeye retiring is like comic Hawkeye ragequitting
It just gets better with repetition
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBy the way, if anyone wants to know Silverclaw's backstory but my summary was way too long, here's the TL:DR version:
- Lupe is a demigoddess child of a mythologist and a pagan volcano goddess, Peliali. Her dad dies and she is raised in a church orphanage, with Jarvis sponsoring her.
- Lupe grows up and goes to the USA to attend ESU. She meets Jarvis and the Avengers. She becomes an Avengers ally.
- Her village is attacked by an evil wizard who wants to kill Lupe's goddess mother for power. Lupe defeats him by convincing her village to believe in Peliali which gives her enough power to break free but not before getting fatally stabbed. Lupe and her mother reconcile as Peliali dies and Lupe becomes an Avenger.
Her story honestly reminds me of a mix of Moana and Wonder Woman.

The religious angle might deter Marvel, though. But it still has my vote.
Sadly Marvel is about to get most of their toys back. But if they want to try another Got G like risk again, I hope they consider her.
The religious angle would be part of the main appeal. Her people were forced to abandon their gods and adopt Christianity by Spanish conquistadors. The gods felt abandoned and left, except for Peliali. Lupe's mother is Peliali but she was raised in a Christian church orphanage. The climax of her story involves realizing that she is the daughter of a goddess and getting her people to believe in Peliali again to save her. It's a really interesting look at how Christianity interacts with Pagan religions in a world where those Pagan gods are real.
I'm actually not sure whether or not Peliali dying is better for the story or not. Maybe not. Maybe it would work better for her to survive and act as a flawed mentor figure for Lupe.
