Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

There's also the deal with him taking away everyone's free will during Emperor Doom
We don't tend to have people do that for good reasons in the real world but the sanctity of free will is one of those things superheroes are always standing up for regardless of context
Forever liveblogging the AvengersDoom's asshole level is a big case of Depending on the Writer. I know that one writer specifically had Doom do a bunch of asshole things because he thought he was turning into a sort of anti-villain sue, and presumably all of those actions were since retconned into being doombots.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"The most noble Doom is Doom 2099, who legitimately wants to make the world a better place, even if it’s to satisfy his ego.
Also, Black Panther in a Super Bowl Lexus commercial.

Literally saw that on TV a few minutes ago... (Watching the Super Bowl.)
Tony, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man in the same scene, followed by Spidey unmasking while the Thanoscopter 2000 is just out in space. WHAAAAA?
Real talk, can we call the giant spinning death circle thingy the "Thanoscopter 2000", please?

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyAh, Korvac was just some writers trying to do a take-that at poor old Jim Shooter. He got a lot of take thats, actually, which is pretty unfair if you ask me.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Regarding Doctor Doom, he and Lex Luthor are cut from the same cloth: both men are at their core, selfish egotistical bastards Believing Their Own Lies about themselves being great noble men, and who are certainly capable of committing altruistic actions that would benefit the world at large, but not for terribly wholesome reasons.
Oh, and neither of them can let go of their fanatically petty grudge against a particular superhero.

Well it's difficult to say
Korvac's plans go largely undetailed in the original saga except that things would totes be better when he was in charge and Moondragon thinks he was right
But the Korvac What If was released while Shooter was EIC and he was not shy about micromanaging projects he was invested in
In the What If Korvac's plan is to take away free will do people can't do bad things and then put the universe in stasis so it can't change. He also takes away the Avengers' free will to make them fight for his cause
There's also that Shooter's run all feels like various test runs on the idea of someone gaining godlike power and that being a bad thing
Which he revisits in the first Secret Wars
So some of the dumping that has been done on Korvac I have to wonder if Shooter would just nod and say "that's the point"

Forever liveblogging the AvengersThere was a comic where Doom meets with Dracula, and the latter makes some bigoted comments about Muslims. And Doom chastises him for them and says that he finds such views to be pathetic. Also in older comics he demonstrated respect towards Black Panther and Storm.
Also you could just say that Doom is so egotistical and full of himself that he considers such "petty" ideas like racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc to be "beneath him." "All are EQUALLY inferior before Doom" and all that.
Black Panther is also one of the few superheroes Doom claims to genuinely respect, because he's a monarch like him. And also far more cynical than the other Avengers, which Doom says is refreshing.
It is worth pointing out that Doom is a Romani and they are still treated like shit in much of Europe. He knows what it's like to be part of an oppressed group.

I think Doom looses something when you take him out of the sixties he originated in. An independent romani leader in the Eastern block? Victor would have gone from fighting off Hitler to fighting for independence from Stalin.
A small state being isolationist and exceptionalist in the face for the American and USSR super powers had a much different meaning back then.

...yeesh, he even got the Soviets to leave Afghanistan and ended the famine in Ethiopia.
Why is he the bad guy again?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
