Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Once the MCU is finished (if that ever happens) it would be fun to have a bunch of comic books covering stuff which was skipped, and maybe add additional stories.
I so much want to see Peter Quill and/or Rocket snicker about Richard Rider's name.
Also, I know it will never happen, but I'd like to see Gwendoline Christie as Lady Thor with Natalie Portman either back full time or sort of being written-out.
I don't really want Steve to be killed off, but I can definitely see a future movie where both Bucky and Sam are operating as Cap and also dealing with a composite of Walker and Burnside.

I kind of love the idea that Thor and the other Asgardians are as much archetypal spirits as they are physical beings and thus not really bound to any one body, and that Thor could just as easily empower another avatar while still remaining essentially him- (or her-) self.

@Unsung-
Interesting. I've definitely mused about that idea because of the ambiguity of whether Thor and Loki are the Thor and Loki, and it certainly works because Ragnarok in Norse Mythology is definitely treated as somewhat cyclical.
Also, I'm not sure whether I'd want him as a pure villain or not, but I'd be kind of interested in Eric O'Grady in the Ant-Man movies, because he does make a good Evil Counterpart to the movie's version of Scott. Although as I mentioned in another post, I'd really like to see Raz as Giant-Man played by Kumail Najiani.

Well, in the near future, on the top of my list is a Savage Land and a Silver Surfer origin movie...and I think that there are good chances for both once the Fox deal goes through. I mean, a property with dinosaurs? No way they pass off an opportunity to show universal how it is done. And the Silver Surfer is along with the Fantastic Four, Namor, She-Hulk and the X-men in general the last character Marvel has left which can head a movie franchise by name alone. Everyone else will be a way harder sell.
I'd love to see them do something with the Irredeemable Ant-Man. Maybe a case where he's not a straight-up villain, but still a criminal and rival, right up until they have to join forces to save the day. Put a decoy villain in there who gets defeated by end of the second act, but leaves a giant mess for the heroes to clean up. I do like that formula, where it's not just about fighting the villain, but about saving people. Homecoming and Spider-Man 2 did that well.
Get Sauron in there and I think you might have something.

That made me imagine someone being a cleric of Thor, a la dnd.
Thor busy in Asgardia or whatever but empowering someone to fight in his name.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell Ka-Zar and/or Shanna, who else. I have naturally a preference for Shanna being the lead, but I guess those two and Zabu kind of belong together. Shanna would need a more practical outfit, though. Honestly, I get the concept of being comfortable, but there is nothing comfortable about running around and fighting in a freaking bikini.
Started typing before the edit, but regarding Blade, I recollected (and confirmed my memory) that Blade is British-born in the comics, and so I was thinking of Idris Elba for him (yeah, I know, obvious choice- there's other good black, British actors) and especially if as a tv series, having an element of the character being alive and having adventures at different periods of history. And needless to say exploring Afro-British and African American history and "code-switching".
So think Timeless meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

To be honest, I kind of dislike Latveria. It is pretty much the American idea of how a small European country looks like. It never had much to do with reality. I remember watching this old Fantastic 4 cartoon and keep wondering why the Fantastic 4 a constantly travelling to an alternate universe until I finally understood how screwed the perception of Europe is.
If they do Doctor Doom and Latveria, Marvel has its work cut out for them to bring it into the current century. But then, that is true for most of the Fantastic 4 stuff.
Which reminds me...I have seen a lot of ideas floating around how to keep the nuclear family angle. I don't think that this is a good idea. They need to explore the family dynamics we have today, not the one of a past era.
The Infinity War teaser apparently played early in Canada and has been posted to Reddit[1]
I haven't seen it but according to one tweet there's a spoiler for the Black Panther movie in it.

Cool. I was partly joking though, as my impression is that Doom has been Equal-Opportunity Evil more often than a Politically Incorrect Villain.

Leaked Superbowl trailer for MCU's Infinity War.
So Tony is using Bleeding Tech?

Doom is probably one of the less bigoted villains. When he conquered the planet, one of the first things he did was end apartheid in South Africa
.
