Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Hawkeye also runs into the problem of being a supposedly normal person who somehow survives serious injuries without any sort of lasting damage. Seriously. One of the best parts of the Hawkeye solo comic was that it opened with a parody of the grappling arrow scene from the end of the first Avengers movie, except this time Clint ends up in the hospital for weeks.
I feel that the Cradle scene from Age of Ultron served the dual purpose of explaining how Clint is even alive by implying that he constantly needs something like this if not exactly this as well as helping set up the creation of Vision.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSomewhat related:
And cue the rumors that Disney will buy the entirety of Sony's entertainment division in 3...2...—
(narrowly dodges a spear)
Ah, I see, this is the part where you guys are like "HA HA HA—No."
...Shutting up now.
Oh pish posh, you worry too much. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the Justice League all coming together in Avengers 5. I've already started saving up for three tickets at $169.99 apiece.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Disney currently doesn't have the money. Fox doesn't come cheap and Sony won't either. Disney can afford Fox, but it might overstretch itself by adding Sony to the list.
I actually see a number of other people who might be interested...we shouldn't forget that when it comes to streaming, not only Netflix and the Studios intend to conquer the market. Everyone who wants to start a streaming service can use his own content.

Yeah, white people tend to age faster than people who are dark-skinned.
The paler you are, the worse you tend to age.
If Paul Rudd was dark-skinned, he'd look even younger.

I have absolutely no issue with actors aging in the MCU.
Don and Bobby Jr are playing characters who fight inside tanks. If there are heroes allowed to be old and active, it's them.
One of my favourite things about the MCU compared to the 616 is that you get to see heroes age. In seven years time the MCU will be older than the 616 in universe (depending on how you count it)
Hawkeye being old is fine by me. In Old Man Logan he was freaking ancient. Being a sniper is a role you can belive older people in.
Michelle Pfeiffer was 59 at the age of filming her Antman and the wasp scenes, and I'm hyped to see an older actress be a super hero.
Also seeing Rhodey freak out that Peter calls Empire Strikes back "that really old film" gets me every time. Don was sixteen when Empire came out.
Honestly, the only characters where I think the visible aging is a problem are the Asgardians like Thor, Loki, Valkyrie and Heimdall.
I remember that when they offered Brent Spiner a chance to reprise his role as Data in an episode of one of the later Star Trek shows, he asked to only do voice-over because he felt that the fact that he was visibly older and heavier than he was a decade and a half earlier would break the suspension of disbelief that Data is an android.

Not necessarily retire so much as, not be in the field as much. Like you can use Tony in ways besides having him constantly putting on the armor and going out to fight himself. Same with Rhodey.
I know a few people who feel like Jeremy Renner is getting up there as well (especially given what kind of character Hawkeye is).
