Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

x5 While his influence on the actual comics is debatable, he was definitely a champion of spreading them to as many people as possible and I probably wouldn't have been watching Spiderman on TV when I was a kid without his influence, which was the first long-form narriative I ever really enjoyed (well, that and Bionicle).
So I owe a lot to the guy personally.

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"![]()
First off, don't address me as "man", I'm non-binary.
Second off, how is this heartless? Like, seriously, I get that he's influential for people, but it always feels like people forget that famous people, ya know, all wind up dying one way or another. Just best to make peace with it before it happens. No need to be sad that someone's dead.
His influence on comics is indeed debatable (I know for a fact Kirby claimed Lee didn't create anything and viewed him with contempt) but I'll at least give him that he had a personality that attracted people to Marvel comics. For that I can have some respect for him.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?According to TMZ, he's doing better and he feels okay. He'll be staying for a few days for checkups, but he's not in any danger.
That said, I do see where Adric is coming from. I'm going to be devastated when we lose him too, but it's going to happen sooner, not later. Stan the Man's a nonagenarian; most people don't get that long. His time came up years ago; Death's just been too squicked out by Thanos to come do her job.
We'll all be heartbroken to see him go, but we should start bracing for impact.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Weirdly and relatedly, I read Starlin's new Infinity Whatever gn trilogy today which seemed to act as a course correct for stuff he didn't like about other people writing Thanos but according to Infinity Revelation, Thanos and Death are together.
It took accidentally blowing up the universe for Thanos to realize that she always cared for him in her own way and that he needed to take it down a notch. And then they kissed.
So.
Yeahhhh.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers@Adric I get what you’re saying, man. But the way you said makes you sound like a dick with no consideration for how people would feel. It’s like hearing that your Grandma is hospitalized and somebody just came up to you and say “Well of course she’s going to do die sooner and later. She’s old”.
My point was basically to be more tactful of the things you said. Especially when its related to somebody who was just in the hospital, old or not.
x3 Too bad. You lost that privlege with your tactless comment.

Also, Lee may not have created a lot of the characters and concepts from the early days of Marvel, but he still wrote most of the dialogue and helped craft the characters' general personalities. Which, as anyone who's actually read Kirby's dialogue can attest to, helped a LOT more than you'd think it would. So I feel he still deserves a certain amount of credit there.
They are best known for their paparazzi-ing but the original article was a TMZ article. So, y'know. Their update is as reliable as their initial report. No more, no less.

Well, the marvel method really only kicked into the controversial gear somewhere down the line.
It feels uncomfortable talking about it though, with this scare.
Though the real split in the relationship was less of Lee's fault and more that of some journo who wrote a flattering piece about Lee but basically described Kirby as a slob. Seriously, it came across like he was trying to insult the guy.

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Eh, I already wrote a pre-emptive eulogy for Stan back in 2013, so I'm emotionally prepared.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]![]()

The Marvel Method basically means "artists do the scripting" which is a big help, since it means that they can integrate the speech into the comic more.
It also meant that they were doing a lot more, and the writers just needed to submit what was basically a synopsis... or a short synopsis... or sometimes just the basic scenario. Which meant that the artist was having a lot more freedom... but they were also dealing with a much bigger workload.
It was this that started the initial tensions between Kirby and Lee.

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"
No, the Marvel method was that the artists would do the plotting. They would take the story idea and plot it out over pages and panels, and then the writer would go back in and write the script, i.e., the dialogue, narration boxes, whatever, before the letterer did the dirty work of writing that in.

There's a reason why they filmed his most recent cameos ahead of time. And he was in a wheelchair during the Black Panther premiere.
