Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Cap's going to have a hard time frisbee-tossing that.
I also know that the toys are meant to let you build another figure piece by piece, but my first thought on seeing it is, "Captain America comes with a new shield and Thanos's severed head?! JESUS. Being on the run made him Marvel's ultimate badass!"
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I agree with the sentiment against [malehero]-girl. But even Batgirl and Supergirl have managed to become interesting worthwhile characters. It does take time though.
Also I really do agree Carol's spotlight has kind of came at the expense of Monica. Monica's had some cool stuff recently but I just know that Monica, a solo film worthy character, is going to end up just being a supporting character in Carol's films.
Monica has been expensed for a long time
They threw her under the bus twice for Peter David's Genis Vell
Carol wasn't taking anything from Monica by becoming Captain Marvel that hadn't been lost to her for years by this point
And Carol had had a new run of somewhat prominence around the Civil War era before she took the title
In terms of squatting the name to spite Shazam she was the obvious choice
Monica absolutely deserves more attention and I only hope she keeps getting prominence as she was in Mighty Avengers and Ultimates But Less Millar-y
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOn the "more famous than the guy in the role" I'm going to have to go with "if you only count Marvel's Captain Marvel" since even with the name change Billy Batson is definitely going to be the first person most people are going to think of.

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"While not especially prominent in the comics, Ghost seems to show up fairly often in adaptations - likely because of the character's cool design and distinctive powerset. IIRC, back before the Iron Man trilogy ended, Ghost got decent buzz as a requested villain there.
It also helps that he - or she here - is a good Foil for Scott personality-wise, and that it gives the movie an "odd powers vs odder powers" vibe that's really cool, especially after the first movie went for the bog-standard Mirror Match.

Billy Batson might be more known to a moderately invested comic reader but his current mass media footprint would be like two episodes of Justice League and a few of the straight to DVD animated movies. Some of which changed him to Captain Thunder I think
Carol has appearances in two Avengers cartoons and an upcoming movie so the average audience member might be more familiar with her by this point
And Marvel has been fairly consistently pushing her so odds are if you've seen a Captain Marvel comic cover recently it's going to be Carol

Forever liveblogging the Avengers
Only T'Challa, master of all four cliques, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished.
Yeah, I agree that Billy's pop culture presence is dismal. So is Carol's. Right now, the average person's opinion of the name Captain Marvel is either going to be "Who?" or "Oh, I think that's a movie coming out."
Which technically counts as a win for Carol but it's still Damned by Faint Praise. That said, once her film hits theaters, then she'll be a household name like the other MCU stars.

x6 I do mean Shazam, yep. The OC, the guy who inspired Elvis. And I might agree with you that he's kind of obscure if not for his role in YJ as a major(ish) supporting character. And he was in Justice League too, but only for one episode (albiet a spotlight episode).
I'd say he's about a Dr. Fate level well known superhero (that is, second tier DC heroes once you get past the major six or so who are always going to be in a JL lineup).

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"I think I know Dr. Fate. He was in the Injustice 2 game. Discount Dr. Strange with a bucket on his head who answers to an evil time god or something?

I try to look at only those and the first two or three trailors.
