Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm really hyped fro Jessica Jones 2, Luke Cage 2 and Cloak and Dagger. (i still have Runaways to watch when the mood takes me too)
I just rewatched most of Age of Ultron, and while the sum isn't as good as it's parts, it's parts are pretty fun.
I really like Ultron. He's not the creepy monster from the trailer, but he does have those creepy moments, especially his first appearance and all his interactions with Wanda. Vision also manages to be brilliantly otherworldly.
I like all the crowd pleasing set pieces. The Party, the Hulk buster fight, the Sokovia battle.
I like how much focus is on protecting civilians and how competent the team feels.
And I like how comfortable all the Avengers are with each other. It's nice to see them all be friends after seeing Civil War a good few times.
I also like how it feels like a comic book universe, with robots and witches and speedsters and mooks who can fly and it doesn't feel the need to explain anything. Though Civil War did this better.
There's this thematic thing about how save Clint, none of the avengers or Ultron have places within conventional family, but it just doesn't come together.
@Phase 4 Black Widow Solo Film,
It feels strange getting her film SO LATE, but if we're correct in our predictions that Thor, Steve and Tony will all be retired in Avengers 3/4 in some way, then she suddenly becomes the most experienced "Super hero" on Earth, and the contrast between that and her lack of powers is kind of interesting? The potential of being there from the very beginning of the Avengers and outliving a few of the founding members is interesting.
I mean, I don't expect Clint or Banner to die (My money is on Cap and Tony dead, Thor retiring to be king, and Banner, Nat and Clint surviving, but maybe Clint looses his hearing and maybe his wife is later revealed to be a Skrull), but Clint never had the same presence in the films that Natasha had, and Banner is over shadowed by the hulk.
Tangent: People I wouldn't be surprised to be Skrulls.
Thunderbolt Ross. He's just managed to almost screw over the Earth's defence enough times and it will give Betty Ross an excuse to finally return.
Clint's family. The 616 interpretation of Clint as a guy with no support network and sever depression took off at about the same time as Age Of Ultron and dang, fans prefer it. And I'm afraid that if they're not Skrulls they'll either be forgotten, be killed, or just end up being cameos at Clint's eventual funeral.
Other than that.... Evert Ross because I want Martin Freeman to play a villain.
...I mean, that's not out of the question, but what brought that on?
Oh God! Natural light!![]()
Ehhhhhhhhhhhh. I'd rather Clint's family not turn out to be Skrulls. Because why would you do that?
Anyway, if you're thinking Kevin Feige is brainstorming how to establish the X-Men in the MCU as we speak, he isn't.
Essentially, he's prioritizing on the movies coming next year and just because they'll suddenly have dibs on the X-Men doesn't mean they'll drop everything they were working on beforehand.
So continue to keep your pants on regarding the X-Men coming to the MCU, m'kay?

And I'd counter that they make more sense as an allegory for minorities when they are in a universe with the Avengers.
I’m cool if they just save the X-Men for the phase 4 movies and continue focusing on the current line of movies they have plan for phase 3. After all, its not like Marvel Studios have actually change plans immidiately for their phase of movies the moment one of their properties return to them and immidiately make a movie about that property thus pushing back dates for the film they originally have slated.
Though to be fair that Executive Meddling worked in favor of Black Panther since his movie is released on a very appropriate time. Can’t say the same for Captain Marvel though.
A woman superhero movie in the #Me Too! movie is actually quite the right time to cash in. Especially since Wonder Woman finally disproved the notion people won't go see a superhero movie about women.
Just caught the Ant Man and the Wasp trailer.
I get the feeling Hank and Hope are a little mad at Scott for getting involved in Civil War.
One Strip! One Strip!
Apparently, Feds are hunting Hank and Hope on account of their association of an alleged betrayer of America, i.e. Scott after Scott sided with Team Cap.
Which, by the way, is that really a thing? Federal agents trying to arrest people who have an association with someone who allegedly committed treason?
It sounds like the standard procedure for an organized crime investigation. They can't arrest Hank or Hope for being associated with Scott, but if there's something else they can peg them for, they can use that as a bargaining chip. The idea is to start at the bottom and work your way in.
Grab Hope and get her to give up Scott's whereabouts and activities. Then go and get Scott and get him to spill about Cap.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.But don't they already have Scott in custody?
I mean, that's why he has the tracker on his leg and all.
One Strip! One Strip!I always headcanonned that Wasp's blasters released slight electromagnetic waves, making them incompatible with ant-speaking. The wings were to compensate for Ant-Man having access to ants that can fly. I hope both of them use the big power in the film, Giant-Girl was always my favorite of the 4 alter egos they use, even if I'm not a fan of the writers constantly using 'girl' instead of 'woman'.
I think it's more that they're after the Pyms because of the Pym Particles. It used to be that they were more myth than fact, but then Scott used them in the middle of a giant battle and subsequently arrested, so they're confirmed to exist.
The Pym Particles probably aren't technically illegal, but any government would weep at the opportunity to get their hands on shrinking/growing tech. The Mundane Utility alone would revolutionize every industry. Shrink cargo for shipment. Shrink supercomputers. Grow models into full buildings. I understand why Pym is worried about his tech being used as a weapon, but Reed Richards Is Useless still annoys me.

Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Well, in the first movie, Hank, Hope and Scott essentially committed an act of at best, corporate sabotage, and at worst, domestic terrorism when they blew up Cross' corporate HQ. An act that very easily could have killed innocent people (hence the scene of Luis having to run back in to rescue the Bound and Gagged security guard), by the way.
If they were able to somehow tie that back to Hank and Hope, that would give the authorities a completely reasonable excuse for arresting them. They had Scott in custody in Civil War and presumably had some sort of hearing or whatever after his escape since he's under house arrest, so it wouldn't be too hard to figure out Hope and Hank's involvement.
Especially since Scott actually mentioned Hank by name while imprisoned during Civil War. Whoops.

Ooo, you're right. He did.
That's probable cause to peg Hank as an accomplice. Before, Hank was shrouded in the legal gray area of "You can't prove it's Pym's shrinking tech he's using. It might operate on similar principles but anyone could have designed Scott's suit. That's how science works."
But you're right. Scott identified Hank as his accomplice by name while in legal custody. This is exactly why standard procedure when placed under arrest is to shut the f*ck up and say nothing that isn't, "I want my lawyer."
For any authority figure that's been waiting literally decades for Hank to give them a reason to seize his assets, Scott Lang delivered a f*cking jackpot while on the Raft.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Wow. As someone who's been in jail before, you'd think he'd know better.
Yeah, I wouldn't give him wings either. He's proven he's untrustworthy.
One Strip! One Strip!@79551 Well, they can't even touch those rights until 2019, so I do agree they should clean up all their loose ends before doing anything with those series.
That being said I'm not sure if Phase 4 would be good for them however you can't keep fans waiting forever for new X-Men films and perhaps a GOOD FF movie.

Just Makima.

For a movie which is supposed to be a romcom, it looks still more like a heist movie...not that I mind, I have a thing for those if they are not called "Oceans 11".
One thing for sure, Marvel offers a whole menu this...the cultural significant movie as a starter, an event movie as main course and finally adding something small and fun as desert.
Add to this the 100th episode of Agent of Shield, more Jessica Jones and Daredevil and Cloak and Dagger looking quite good, this could be a really great Marvel year.
