Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Eh. Although you can't (and shouldn't) separate out the cool because of diversity aspect, the early reviews praise aspects of BP's characters, plotting, world-building, etc. So I don't really see a reason to be that skeptical. I will acknowledge though that while I did like Wonder Woman, it wasn't quite as good as what I would have expected based on the level of praise. Then again, neither was Spider-Man: Homecoming, so...
Ant-Man and Wasp trailer looks awesome. Cool to see more of the "weaponized shrinking and enbiggening". Ghost looks great. Might partly just be an example of going for a more mundane/realistic costume, but I like the "Mr. Robot style hacker" feel the hoodie gives. Which is appropriate for Ghost.
I am always sceptical regarding early impressions...hell, even Fant4stic found enough people to claim that it was a good watch. As did Bv S. To me they are mostly neutral at this point...meaning you can read if it is a bad movie to a certain degree (because the praise gets strenuous in this case), but they aren't really an indicator if a movie is an okay watch or freaking awesome.

Update on my last post. There's a good look at Ghost someone linked to on io9
◊. Also, a Reddit user noted that Ghost's look
is very similar to that in Iron Man: Armored Adventures (which I've vaguely heard of but never seen).
So, I'm not as sure about the hoodie.

I hope she says "Ghost reporting" or "Did somebody call for an exterminator?" at some point
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIn case anyone didn't notice, the sick guitar riff soundtrack of the trailer is a rock cover of the first movie's theme for Ant Man by Christopher Beck.
Looks like Marvel have their bases covered this year. They have the 'important' film (Black Panther), the 'event' film (Infinity War) and the 'lighthearted romp' (Ant Man & The Wasp).
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAnt-Man and the Wasp looks like it'll be a lot of fun. I'm one of the people who actually really enjoyed the first Ant-Man and thinks it holds up on rewatches, so if the sequel has the same kinds of setpieces even without Wright, then I'll be pleased.
As for Black Panther I'm noticing a lot of praise for Killmonger, which excites me a lot! While watching the fight scenes in the release clips my first thought was they don't look as good as the ones from The Winter Soldier and Civil War, but it's a different kind of movie with different choreography staff so I don't think it'll necessarily be a negative in the grand scheme of things. I'm really glad to hear about the strong worldbuilding though. I always do enjoy that in a work.
They could have subtitled this trailer "yeah, Wasp is awesome." Also Ghost looks really cool. I'm curious to see if she takes her helmet/costume off in the movie at all. Comic book Ghost is uber-paranoid and keeps his own pretty much all the time, but Marvel might not be able to resist the urge to show Hannah John-Kamen's face in the film.
Yeah that’s pretty much my notes regarding thr trailer. I mean, like that shot of her dodging that knife by shrinking! Holy shit!
Yeah everything in that trailer got me excited. It retains the crazy aize changing sctick from the first film which was easily the best part of the movie (building briefcase). The action scenes are amazing to look at. They are continuing from Civil War with Scott being under house arrest for basically betraying his country. And I am really hyped for the antagonist since I always wanted to see Ghost on the big screen since the Iron Man trilogy; wonder if she’ll be a shadow archtype for Scott since chances are she is hired by the Bigger Bad to steal Pym’s shit with her goon squad?
The comparatively-giant tardigrades and what looks like bacterium at the one minute mark are interesting. I was under the impression that the Pym Particle's "minimum size" without going into infinite-collapse-mode wasn't small enough for that.
Is that some kind of rescue-Janet-from-the-microverse vessel?
Also, HELLO Kitty.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm more amused by how first Darren Cross managed to shoot out a flying ant mid-air and now there's this guy hurling knives at a wasp and narrowly missing.
Are the criminals in these movies like reverse stormtroopers with surgical-precision aiming? Or Are they all cousins to Bullseye?
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Bullseye would really wipe the floor with Scott and Janet given the chance.
Gosh I'm so glad the MCU is heating up at the moment, I've missed this world over the holiday season.
I wonder if Bill Foster gets to use the Pym powers at all, possibly not considering with both Wasps it means four people all with the same power-set. Really glad to have Bill be relevant to the world again after 11 years of injustice.
I wonder how the film is going to keep Scott useful given Hope is a better fighter and has more powers. I guess he'll use his crook skills a whole lot more and will probably be the only person to Embiggen himself considering how dangerous it is.

Yeah, but I take them with a grain of salt. It's only early reactions after all, and a lot of those commenting seem to be more excited that a blockbuster featuring a mostly black cast actually exists instead of what is in the movie itself. Not that I am not happy about representation. But I was also happy about Wonder Woman existing and being successful without actually liking the movie all that much myself.
