Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The man is a sexual assaulter. I don't think I can let that slide, and I know a lot of people won't either. Again, this is the same excuse people give when they wanna pretend Woody Allen, Mel Gibson, or the whole host of creeps and assholes in Hollywood haven't done openly controversial shit.
Just get Christopher Plummer to replace him in post-production.

It's will be released in July, but I think that won't much necessity if he doesn't have that much of screen-time.
I understand but still, it all depends in how heinous the harassment was and if it wasn't that severe or was the only case, then the person shouldn't get that much flack, especially if said person would want to atone and set things right.

He jacked off in front of an assistant, how is that not heinous? And given he, again, tried to preemptively deny the allegations before they came out, I highly doubt he's gonna seek forgiveness. Please don't try to whitewash a sexual assaulter.
Hank Pym may be a "side" character here, but given A: the plot is known to involve his wife, B: one of the main characters is his daughter, and C: he's like the third most important character in Ant-Man and is supposed to serve as a mentor, the idea that he's gonna be sidelined or something is born out of nothing. He'll be in half of the movie, this isn't like Kevin Spacey only being in like a quarter of Baby Driver.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
x4 You do know the other portion of said box office return goes to also Payton Reed, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Michelle Phiffer and Laurence Fishborne? Unless all of them have been a part of yet another sexual allegation, I'm pretty sure not going to see it due to what Michael Douglas did is a bit of a large leap.
Its just like the issue with Ruroni Kenshin's creators, while I do not support what the guy did that doesn't mean I should stop buying the manga volumes and dvd of the anime as there are tons of other people who have involvement in creating and distributing said work that deserves to get paid. I think this is where seperating the artist with the work should come into play here; whether or not the allegations regarding Michael Douglas is true.
Yeah I agree. This is the first time I even heard of this controversy. I merely mention AntMan and The Wasp because I was legitimately hype for it and was not up to date on the latest Hollywood news.
My post wasn't even refering to you Adric, but to Unknowing.

...where did I say that I'm not gonna see the film because of Douglas's allegations? I said my hype for it went down considerably, I'm still going to see it anyways. I'm not gonna be happy to see it knowing that Michael Douglas is going to have a large amount of screentime, but I'm not asking for a boycott of the thing.
Ah, never mind then. I mean I don't particularly blame Unknowing for doing that, to be honest.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I think it's weird to call the separation of an actor from the character as an exercise in futility. The point people do that is so that they can enjoy the story without being caught up in the real world and escape into the story.
That said, I support anyone who doesn't want to go watch such movies because of sexual allegations involving the director/actor etc.

I'm not pleased with Michael Douglas' actions one bit, but I still think I'm gonna go see Ant-Man and the Wasp since I've gotten well into the MCU recently and I enjoyed the first Ant-Man well enough, even with how filthy I'm gonna feel for helping put money into his pocket.
On my wave, passing oooooooon
x2 That is exactly what I meant by that. Instead of focusing on the behind the scenes of what the people who made the movie have done IRL, why not just focus on the quality of the film itself. Its not really hard to do for somebody you know has done something fucked up but you still enjoy the performance they gave in the past, present or future.
[Holds up picture Chris Benoit to face]
Yeah, I am not going to stroke the picture longingly. He's too controversial.
I can accept Unknowings decision in not going to see it because of that. It just seems weird to me that it is the main reason to not want to see a movie.
Hey look on the bright side for the amount of happiness you give to Michael Douglas, you are also giving a large amount of happinessto the other actors, directors and writers of the film cancelling out the former's happiness. So whatever . . . yes, I'm a Money Cuck.
There's still Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, etc. That's plenty of reasons to see the film for me, regardless of my feelings towards Michael Douglas.
Also I get a little iffy on pre-emptively assuming guilt based on allegations (maybe it's the criminal justice degree-holder in me talking, IDK).
Also as someone who wasn't too fond of how they handled Hope and Janet last time, I'm curious to see if there's a least a good payoff coming there.
I have gotten in the habit to rank the franchises instead of the movies....
1. The Captain America Franchise
As I said, the First Avenger is very underrated, it is actually my favourite origin movie (yes, I like it slightly better than Ironman), The Winter Soldier is my favourite of the whole MCU and Civil War is just epic!
2. The Got G Franchise
Honestly, I can't say which one I like more. The first one is more balanced, does better with the joke and is just perfect in everything what it tries to do. The second one stumbles a little bit more, but is thematically way stronger, has the better villain, and those last ten minutes...that is how you do an overly long funeral scene!
3. The Avengers Franchise
First one is still great, Age of Ultron is full or problems, but thematically, it actually has a lot to offer...I am also hopeful for Infinity war.
4. The Spider-man Franchise
This one might move up or down with later instalments, but overall, I really like Tom Holland in the role, which might be the most important thing. Solid first entry with home-coming, so I put it here for now.
5. The Ironman Franchise
First one is great, second one an enjoyable mess (I like it more than most do), third one was interesting but really dropped the ball in the last 20 minutes. Loved the Mandarin idea, though.
6. The Thor Franchise
Frankly, nearly on the same level. As I mentioned, the problem with the Thor Franchise is that there are always two storylines which never have the same quality level. I actually like the Shakespearean aspects of the first Thor - honestly, I like all origin movies of phase 1 more than the ones in phase 2. Hope Phase 3 will do better with Black Panther (first reactions are posted, btw) and Captain Marvel. Anyway, Thor TDW is objectively speaking the worst movie in the MCU, it comes very close to being rotten, and while Ragnarok is a blast, it just lacks the balance the Got G movies provide. I want a little bit more than just fun, I want a little bit of everything.
7. The Ant-man Franchise
Flawed first entry, but I am optimistic.
8. The Doctor Strange Franchise
See above
9. The Incredible Hulk
It might not be the worst movie in the MCU, objectively speaking, bit it is just incredible boring and therefore my least favourite nevertheless. Also the most skipable.
Some more good size changing shenanigans it seems
I like the rolling building suitcase
Forever liveblogging the AvengersReactions from the Black Panther premier have hit the internet and of course, they’re positive.

What I'm telling is...is he even the focus of the film? Because if he's not, then your argument falls flat because we may not focus much on him anyways.
